The prices for new cars is shocking 😳🤦‍♂️
This is partly because UK Govt. has introduced new laws requiring car manufacturers to sell a minimum percentage of zero emission vehicles which came into force in Britain as of 3 January 2024.

For 2024, this is set at 22% of all new cars sold, rising every year thereafter until a target of 80% at 2030 and the 100% target by 2035. This means that for 2024 the number of ICE vehicles sold must be less than 78% of total sales otherwise manufacturers will face fines of £15,000 per ICE vehicle over this quota !

To comply with this draconian measure, manufacturers are trying to boost sales of EVs by selling them at a loss and making up the difference (plus the cost of fines) by increasing prices of ICE powered cars.

Shocking doesn't come close to how I would describe this and I've read of similar measures being introduced for central heating boilers.
