SAT nav software not showing road problem

There are 3 different things giving traffic information, but I'm basing this on my Mib2 Sat Nav.

In the Sat Nav settings, find and select the Map settings, then look for and select Traffic Flow. There should be options for each of the following ... Freely moving, Slow moving and Stationary. when selected these show borders on the roads in Green, Amber and Red respectively. The coloured borders can be on either side of the road or both, and so indicate which direction(s) of travel are affected. These almost certainly require an internet connection and may require a current Guide & Inform subscription.

The second thing, which requires an internet connection and a current Guide & Inform subscription, is the display of road works and road closures via icons that appear on the map (I think the road closure also displays the affected section of road in Red). If the road works have traffic lights, there will usually be sections of road in Red to indicate queuing traffic. Tapping the road works or road closure icon brings up a side-panel with details, although the location given is often very vague or even wrong so it's better to just zoom in the map and go by the position of the icon.

The third thing is reached via the infotainment menu by selecting Car Net and then selecting Traffic. This displays a map, based on your current location, which shows road works and road closure icons each with an A,B,C... form of label across the area of the map, with a side-panel giving an ordered A,B,C... list showing details of the issues. If you move of zoom the map, the icons and side-panel list are updated accordingly for the new area displayed in the map. Like the above, this also requires an internet connection and a current Guide & Inform subscription.

In addition to the above, there is an option for dynamic route guidance (probably in the Sat Nav Settings->Map but I can't be sure without checking). When this option is selected and you have started route guidance, the route will be altered automatically in real-time to avoid congestion (as indicated by Red or Amber road borders), road closures and accidents. Again, this requires an internet connection and a current Guide & Inform subscription. I can confirm that it works but may come as a surprise when you are directed to follow a new route from what you were expecting.

My assumption is that the Mib3 Sat Nav provides the same features although the method of activation and precise details may differ from the Mib2.

Many thanks for this detailed analysis. Unfortunately as I am a non tech person with no degree in IT, simplicity for myself is the key. To my mind the software should upload the basic features which are required for safer driving immediately . It just seems so very complicated to make the SAT nav do its job! But thanks anyway. Will have to sit and look at all the provided information.
I think you are worrying about nothing.

This screenshot about traffic flow is from the Owner's Manual for a MY24 car and differs somewhat from my earlier description ...

Pre-requisites for 2024 cars;
  • an internet connection
  • check privacy settings
  • VW Connect, VW Connect Plus, We Connect or We Connect Plus (These replace Guide & Inform which was for older cars).

Details of VW Connect/We Connect can be found here

If you don't have a hard copy of of the Owner's Manual, you can view an online version using either of the following links and entering your VIN number. Note: the 2 sites linked above will display the same manual contents but the online viewers have a different look & feel.

Digital Manual | Volkswagen

Owner's manuals | Volkswagen UK

Well, as I said initially, those instructions were applicable to my Mib2 Sat Nav and most likely different (but similar ?) for your Mib3.

Like many, many things, such details of settings options are not provided in the Owner's Manual, including the manual for a MY24 car which I've examined online.

As I don't have an Mib3, I'm afraid I can't offer any further guidance on what settings options are available and where to find them and so you will either have to explore the settings menus and options yourself or perhaps an owner with an Mib3 can provide relevant details.

Sorry.

Yes, assuming you have an active Sat Nav, Traffic Flow on the MIB2 requires an active Guide & Inform subscription. For MIB3 cars it requires We Connect Plus or VW Connect Plus.

Subscriptions for Car-Net were free on new cars, but some services were free for 10 years while others, such as Guide & Inform, for just 3 years. Owners had to register for Car-Net within 90 days of delivery to activate them. Car-Net later became We Connect (now discontinued and replace by VW Connect).

We Connect / VW Connect provide roughly the same features as the previous Car-Net Security & Service.
We Connect Plus / VW Connect Plus provide roughtly the same features as Car-Net Guide & Inform.

For what it's worth, if you haven't seen any traffic flow displays @wickenmiller8 , here are some examples of screenshots from my Mib2. Maybe another member can add some similar images from an Mib3 system.

The first image is an overview of the area, then the next 4 images show what is displayed by tapping on the icons for 4 of the 'incidents' in the first image.
