So car went in again today. This time I test drove with the service technician and service manager. Both of them confirmed the noise and claimed it to be brakes, they ground down the brake pads again. They claim uneven brake wear. I can't understand the uneven wear. I did 62km since they last ground down the pads. Would you actually see uneven wear after 60km? They claim misalignment or sliding pins to maybe have been the cause. As I collected the manager stopped me as he heard the noise again and now the car will be booked for the 4th time but they want to lease with VWSA on the way forward.

At least they seem proactive as opposed to some dealerships who will just claim “it’s a characteristic of the car” and send you on your way.

Could be a brake disc is warped or not true to the axle. I would hope the workshop would use a dial gauge to check for any run out on the discs.

Are you aware of any vibration or feel any vibration through the brake pedal ?

When i was a Tech, we found quite often a small stone being lodged between the disc and the backplate! Due to the caliper being forward of the disc, they would not drop out naturally, but rattle around, and sometimes jam and cause a grinding noise! sometimes only solution was to take caliper off, and if you were lucky a stone may fall out!!

I'm doubt considering it's not the first time they getting to inspect the car but I'm hoping this Monday would be the last I need to send it in to resolve the issue. Luckily the service manager understands my frustration and said he will personally come fetch the vehicle and leave his personal Amarok with me inorder to sort the vehicle out. VWSA hasn't advised on what should be done however the service centre wants to keep the car for atleast 3 days this time to fix and make sure the issue doesn't reoccur once I drive off.

Point to note: the first 2 visits was a VW near me. Now the 3rd visit was a dealership I used on my previous cars. I recently relocated hence going to a dealer closer to home however this might have been my mistake.
latest update: VW kept the car for 3 days, only got it back this evening. They heard the sound when test driving and when checking the brakes they claimed the previous dealer did absolutely nothing to the car (Maybe thats VWs way of refusing brake pad replacement?). The work they carried out, they removed the caliper discs back plate even checked the bearing. All seemed fine, no warped discs any all rust was taken care of. Whole brake system was cleaned out and pads rubbed down a bit. I must admit though that the rear brakes looks spotless. Suspension was checked and no issues found. They applied copper compound as well to stop any squeaks. All this was carried out on the first day and the car was tested over 2 days thereafter. I haven't driven the car since they delivered it today however I will take it for a good journey over the weekend to check it.

Hope it works out for you. Good luck !

I would guess the dealer used on the first 2 visits would have claimed time (& materials ?) from VW under the pretext of warranty.

I hope so too.

I requested a view of all warranty claims today and the current dealer says there is no claims loaded. This really confused me and also made sense why they would make a statement to say the previous dealer nothing. However I do know they delay claims sometimes so I would need to check again.

Just happy that I drove to the shop and back today and didn't hear that squeaking noise. Fingers crossed will be doing a long trip this Saturday and see what happens.

Latest update, did about 600kms(370miles) over the past few days and all seems well. Hoping it stays that way. Will judge after it gets a nice wash as I see a bit of brake dust build up now.

Hi, Unfortunately I have the same problem. I bought my T-roc 0Kms in May/2018. Made about 3000Km when it started to make a grinning noise. The dealership close to me took more than a year to find out what the problem was, because it was a new car model, etc..., the noise went from a small cricket noise to a cow moooing, yes really! I lost count of how many times I had to take my car to get checked. One time they "cleaned the brake pads"... it took a week until it started doing the noise again... Finally they replaced the pads (according to them, because they don't give me any reports of what they did to my car) and it appeared to have worked, until about a year after when it started again, and again and again, the last time 09/2022. Now started again about 2 months ago. I made an appointment (4th official check up) and complained about the noise. I had to make a video AGAIN! showing the noise because it didn't do it with them... I sent it on 8th of August, and finally today after insisting, I had a reply: " In accordance with what is provided for by law, I will clarify what I informed you. The repair of the vehicle during the warranty period does not constitute a provision of service, but the fulfillment of a legal obligation to restore conformity. After the warranty period, even if the same defect reappears, the consumer is not entitled to a new repair or to exercise any of the remaining rights. The contractual guarantee is a guarantee of the good (vehicle). Your Volkswagen warranty expired on 8/6/2023. I would like to inform you that after the rear brake pads were fitted on 09/2022, with reference number 5Q0698451AE, we carried out a road test and verified that the braking system was in perfect working order. Brake pads, like other vehicle components, are wearing parts and their duration depends on the driver's use". So basically: "F**k ME" I don't know what else to do, the car has only 52000Km! Better luck to you...

Hi there, sorry to hear of your horrible experience. If it helps your not alone in this, my car seemed to start up with the annoyances again. I did make the service manager aware it's recurred but I am in no mood of sending this car back. I don't think its worth keeping this long term nor do I think I will purchase another VW again. I will await for VW to provide a response and see the outcome but definitely not in the mood for this up and down back and forth.

Unfortunately, the quality of many materials from the VW group has been decreasing, especially in brake discs and pads, from what I see in a little search on the internet, for example in a vehicle with less than one km you can see the points of contact between the disc and the pads. , the disc is new and the pads too... the car too ;)

I know what you mean. Fortunately their performance still rivals its competition. I had a friend of mine with a X3 xDrive20d M Sport trying to keep up and struggled alot but I think VW could improve on quality. I know it's BMW but when jumping in one you notice the build quality difference. Even with the polo aw gti I owned you could see how they started cutting down on quality but moving from polo to T Roc the price gap is obvious and one would expect more. How could they have carpet lined wheel arches and not in a family car (T Roc).

Thanks then MK2 did not bring back dual tone.

@twist I can definitely confirm this on the MK2. I do confirm there is some improvements but not with the hooter. Even the golf 8 GTI in the SA market has single tone.
I've heard someone say here on the forum that from 2024 all T Roc will have 2 horns, I don't remember where, but someone has already talked about this
