I have a fairly loud noise that has developed in the last two days. It only occurs when I reverse out of my drive and I use/turn the steering wheel. I haven't determined if it's while I'm braking or steering however I suspect its while steering. Anybody else had this? I will be popping into my local dealership later this week to inform them of this. I will of course update all on here.

Hi, That is a problem noise that i have experienced several times while reversing, not just at start up but after driving several miles, only when reversing.
How did you get on at the dealers.

I used to get that on my previous car, it was related to rust on the brake disks, it rubbed different bits of the pads when I braked in reverse compared to forwards, so it always grated when reversed off the drive. That usually only happens with quite old disks, yours won't be nearly old or worn enough. I'd get it checked.

Had car for a couple of days and just noticed this morning a loud whine when turning onto the drive. I believe its the steering, so nothing to do with rusty brake disks as only had the car for 2 days. It was wet this morning so maybe that had something to do with it.

I have developed a whine when braking as well. My car is only a week old and has done 126 miles. I first heard it a couple of days after picking it up and thought it might just be the car bedding in. But now it is still happening. It is fine when the brakes are cold but when I drive for a while I start to hear it. When I initially touch the brakes it's fine but just before my car comes to a stop I heard a loud whine. It's definitely coming from the back brakes. Going to book an appointment next week at the dealers to get them to have a look at it.

I have a whine when pushing the brake in 1st gear. I've reported it to my dealer and managed to film it this evening and they say they will talk to the service team in the morning.

Not even had the car a week, hope it's not a dud!

So I contacted my dealer who said they could book me in for next Thursday. Told them it wasn't good enough after paying £28000 for a new car so they said to bring it in and a mechanical would go out on a drive to see what was causing the noise. When we went out we didn't manage to hear the noise I was describing which is typical. When he went into the car he did a few emergency stops to as he described it clean the discs as they are coated when brand new and you need to get this coating off. I have only driven it to work and back since then but I can't hear the noise so maybe this has done the trick.

Mine is going back on Monday for them to check the whining brakes and also the front sensors as they also seem to be faulty 😞

So, mine went back and spent the day with the dealers!

I went for a drive with one of the mechanics and fully expected the noise from the brakes to silence itself, but it didn't! Mechanic agreed there was something worth investigating. They also agreed to look at the sensors.

As there were no courtesy cars available due to the late booking, my salesman actually gave me his own car for the day!

Collected at about 4pm, they tell me there was an issue with the rear brakes probably from sitting at a dockyard as Jimbo has found and they didn't find an issue with the sensors.

Test drive to work tomorrow then and will see what happens....

Hi Claireb. The noise I had has come back so it wasn't a coating on the brakes or anything like that. My car is booked in for Friday. I have taken a recording of the noise as it didn't happen when the mechanic test drove it. Its definitely the back brakes that the noise is coming. It gets so loud that it's getting embarrassing to drive and wasting the whole new car experience.

This is interesting as when on had my arona that also used to suffer with grinding sound from the rear brakes, even after a couple of miles the rear discs would have a coating of rust on them. It was also reported by a couple of other people. But as the miles increased and the weather improved the noise stopped, don't if the weather was a coincidence or not. I look if I can find the picture of the rear disks after driving a couple of miles.

So mine is going back for a couple of days between Xmas and new year for them to get to the bottom of the issue.

I'll be just over a month of ownership so won't be able to reject it if they can't find a fault. The brakes work as they should and it's just noisy so just annoying. Can't fault the dealer, they've been great so far!

So, the car spent 2 days with VW last week and they have stripped the brakes down and cleaned them and rebuilt. So far, I haven't had the noise but I'm keeping an ear out for it to return!

On another note, it appears that T-Rocs are in demand as the model that was in the showroom on Thursday at 8am on Thursday had been sold and collected by the time I returned on Friday PM. Still felt slightly guilty as I saw my GTI for sale on the forecourt 😞.

We are lucky to have our cars!!

I had a brake noise from new (Picked up in November). Mainly at low speed, pulling up to junctions, on the drive etc. Mechanic sat in the car with me around the dealership car park, identified it to be the rear brakes, took it in and changed the rear brake pads, all OK now.

I get a squeaking/squealing sound when I first start to reverse off my drive. I reverse to the right. I didn't know if it would do it while reversing to the left, as reversing to the right is the only way to leave our street, so I never reverse left first thing after starting the car on any day. It only happens occasionally.
