Is the SD card plugged directly into your laptop, or into a plug in 'dongle'? It looks like it's going off line during the process. The other possibility is the process taking some time, and the laptop going to sleep during it, as presumably you may not be using it for anything else.

As with others on here I tend to do it in 2 stages, extract to a folder on your computer, then if this completes you know you have all the files. Then copy everything from the MAPS folder to the SD card as a separate step.

This can also be quicker writing to the SD as you not extracting and copying in one step.

The car will obviously fail to find the maps on a generic card as it's not got the hidden VW identifier.

The comment on trying a generic card was to confirm if your laptop copied the files over completely without going unavailable. It was never meant that this might work in the car, only prove the copy method.

Did the folders fully copy across on the generic SD card? If so, try the same method again with the VW card.

Depending on you internet connection the download process may have been interrupted which will cause some "holes" in the data for the maps. Basically you have corrupted segments within the files of the map data.
A load of cobblers! Yes the data will be broken up into packets, each packet with a unique number. On reassembling at your computer it will request any missing packets. If it fails to complete the reassembly it'll fail the transfer not leave you with a file "with holes" in.

I never said anything about not using a download manager, whatever works for you. I just stated you do not get left with a file with "holes" in it! You get a working file, or a failed transfer.

Personally, I just open the map location in the browser, click on the file and it downloads. It can take a while, so either keep using the computer, or keep it on and ensure it doesn't go to sleep during the transfer.
