Horn

Post by Chris1477 » Wed Sep 25, 2019 8:00 am

Hi All,

Unfortunately on my 2.0 Design, I have the single tone horn.

I'm hoping someone has a guide or knows where the horn is, so I can look at replacing.

Thanks in advance!

Oh dear, I keep reading all of these threads where people go on about their horn! “It’s only a single tone horn”! Wanting to upgrade it to a two-tone one... In truth, I’ve had my car over six months now (luckily trouble free) and I’ve never used my horn - not once! Don’t even know what it sounds like! I imagine it’s loud enough - otherwise it wouldn’t meet type approval so why all the fuss?

If you can bear with me until after the weekend (and when it stops raining) I have an option I'm trying that may just work by replacing the single tone horn with another but which is much louder (115dB). Just need to check that it all mounts up ok on the existing mounting points (just need the rain to stop as I'm working outside).

Assuming it does, then I'll be posting up before and after "toots" and details.

I agree with both of you on this, but there has been an earlier thread on which I made a similar comment, and I was firmly put in my place! It's clear we are in the minority.

Are we bothered though Grralph? I think not. I'm happy to be in the minority if that's the case, as I'd sooner have a horn one can properly hear when it is sounded on the occasions where it is necessary to use rather than the type approved pip-squeak fitted as standard. What I have in mind is a single tone 115dB horn that is CanBUS compliant and a one-for-one swap.

Imagining it's loud enough is ok until you find when you DO need it that it's pathetically useless. And after all one has to remember that as with all cars they are built to a budget, so certain items perhaps could be better than the OEM items fitted.

That's correct, once you've popped out the nearside fog light you can see the horn just behind it towards the centre of the vehicle. As long as your hands aren't like gorillas you can easily get in to remove it !

I simply replaced that pathetic single horn with twin horns from Hella.
I installed my twin setup with the correct VW plug and socket, so its a 5 minute job to remove it all and fit back the original single horn later when I come to sell the vehicle. That's just in case my next vehicle purchase also has a single horn ! :o
