Yeah it seems like pretty standard “get out of jail free” verbiage to me with a lot of “it’s probably the way you drive that caused it to break.”

I’ve always found it ridiculous too that parts replaced under warranty don’t carry a full warranty term themselves and are only covered for the remainder of the original warranty. If you sell me a car with a part that is faulty, I should get a full warranty on the replacement part too - it was supposed to be free of defect from day 1.

That is standard practice for most product warranties and is not unique to cars. Someone will probably update with some exceptions

However, I've found VW to be quite helpful and willing to cover all or part of the cost of repairs for what could be regarded as premature failures even beyond the 3 year warranty period. I've had money refunded on several occasions simply by writing a polite letter to customer service, explaining the issue and my loyalty to the brand. I've even had similar treatment from Vauxhall in the more distant past before my loyalty moved to VW.

It was reported in the Mail motoring section today that due to the closure of it's retailers because of the Covid-19 pandemic Seat has extended the warranty cover on all vehicles by 3 months. Hopefully VW will do likewise.

That would be good, but I missed it in today's paper so your report is the first I've heard. Probably too much to expect VW to send a letter or email to all owners.
