Road sign recognition

Post by Paul 49 » Mon Oct 12, 2020 3:23 pm

Anyone got traffic sign recognition working? I have coded, got it showing the signs but the excessive speed warning seem to be reading kph therefore warning prematurely, the settings in the central display is to mph, the car is SE spec so no navigation or virtual dashboard.

Any suggestion welcome, it's not that important ,just bugs me that I can't get it right.
Cheers...Paul

Just guessing, but doesn't coding often add new menu options for newly enabled features in the car settings ?

The OP included "... settings in the central display is to mph ..." so it's probably safe to say the Units setting is mph.

I was guessing there might be a separate (new) setting or settings specifically for road sign recognition.

Good point, well I did say I was plucking at straws  :?
No harm in double checking ;)

There are settings to display signs on/off, sign display with no warning for exceeding the speed limit, visual warning of exceeding the speed limit, visual and audible warning of exceeding the speed limit and speed limit warning threshold adjustment ie I set my warning to come on 3mph over any speed limit.

I must take a look again tomorrow 🤔

If you are considering using sign recog then I would refrain from any form of visual/sound overspeed warning as they will be constantly in use.
It is not really the system at fault, as it can be useful, it is the placement of the road signs that the system "sees" or does not "see" and if merged with satnav data does give some misinformation when the mapping data is not correct.
Use it as a guide as it is not the "be all to end all". Sometimes I feel it may work better with the mapping data turned off, but then no, because then it would only remember and display the last "seen" sign and that could be a 20mph or a 100mph, it is set until it "sees" something else.

I'm confused
Are you saying yours is working OK but you had the warning message/sound set at 12mph over the limit and that was your problem 🤔
