Update on MIB3 satnave

Post by Buddy1 » Thu Nov 05, 2020 12:31 pm

Hi all, an update on the MIB3 satnav settings having spent more time trying to understand how this new satnav works than driving the car, my problem was trying to delete/remove last destinations well by trying every button on the display to no avail I discovered that you place your finger on the last destination and swipe to the left which brings up a red square with a bin in it tap the bin destination deleted.
hope it helps, now just trying to sort out not working with post codes ha ha.

Hi Buddy 1,
if you can sort out the postcodes, you're a better man than me !!
If you find out how to display them as destinations, rather than "offroad", then PLEASE tell us all !!!!

Hi All,

Well the saga ref MIB 3 map update goes on, at the end of February I finally got an answer from VW customer care:

The map update CANNOT be done by the customer
Post codes showing OFF ROAD or Longitude/latitude should be fixed with software update
Radio stations will only be update when the Stations update the server with new logos.
DUE TO COVID/BREXIT/LACK OF STAFF SOFTWARE COULD BE DELAYED.

So I closed the case, but then 2 weeks later I noticed the 23/11/20 map download carried in the title was USBFIX 2.0, so I contacted VW again and asked if they could shed some light on this and was it a fix to allow the map update to be carried out by using the USB c memory stick, they said they would look into it and get back to me, their response was they believed I was doing it wrong and referred me back to the dealer, after making contact with the dealer they said they were still no further forward in fixing this issue but did give me a sheet copied from somewhere that quite clearly says it can be done including the instructions, so this was a complete turn around from their first reply that it could not be done by the customer.
48 hours later I get a phone call from the dealer saying they need my car for 2 days regarding this problem., they gave no indication as to what they are going to do.

If a fix is carried out I will post it here, but I am not holding my breath

Regards to all

Hi Buddy1,
Yes, please post any update.
I have raised this issue on other VW forums - and the problem seems to be widespread within the VAG group. No-one has a solution yet.
If the dealer fixes it, then please post full details. I just think that if I take my car to my local dealer, they won't have a clue ......
Thanks

Hi Everyone,
Well as expected a complete waste of my time, my dealer has had the car for two days and I assumed that they had a fix, their findings are, no the map update does not work they don't know why and strangely enough the map update on vw web site has been removed it was 23/11/2020 but now replaced with 20/6/2020 which is before the car was even built and this was their reason for not going any further and that was after I gave the latest download that I had saved on my usb-c stick.
Second issue they informed me about was even though you can connect the MIB3 to your mobile phone hotspot you still cannot access the internet to stream music/radio stations again they don't know why.

So all in all I have just given up , the dealers only excuse is they have little knowledge about this MIB3 unit and no help from VW technical.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, if anyone else finds a solution please please let me know.

If they can't get something as simple as a satnav and media system working, that doesn't do much for confidence in the rest of their software controlled systems. Who would ever want to have one of their driverless cars.

I've had my T-ROC since October and only last week did I manage to get internet radio working (kind of). Connected car to house wifi for first time and managed to get a list of stations. Could only tune in to and actually hear some UK stations. Tried a few different countries: NZ, Jamaica and France.. I could browse the whole list of stations in those countires but when trying to listen to one, just got spinning circle and no connection.

I have not managed to get this to work at all using the e-sim in the car.

I think they’ll put a lot more effort into that stuff though since a failure of that could result in death and that would be game over for VW. The infotainment system though? That’s just slapped together as quick and cheap as possible as it will - at most - result in customer grumbles.

Take a look at how bad the new system in the ID3 is. It’s the number 1 complaint that every single automotive journalist has (even more so than the absurd front/rear window toggle...) Every video I’ve watched that shows the infotainment system has shown that it’s very, very slow. Our MIB2 systems are lightning fast in comparison. I think we bought ours at the right time! Wonder if garages will start offering an MIB3 -> MIB2 downgrade
