Window washer fuse

Post by Jincha » Fri Feb 12, 2021 9:43 am

Window washers have packed up in winter weather. Can anyone tell me which fuse and which fuse board to check for the window washers please? (2018 1.0l Design). I seem to be having difficulty finding a fuse box diagram. In advance - thanks!

Are you sure this isn't just the jets frozen, or even the entire washer fluid bottle which might mean any fluid in the pump could also be frozen.

Can't find anything on-line, plenty of bumff regarding the wipers themselves but nothing on the washer .... if the jets/pipes/bottle are frozen you should hear the pump trying to, er, pump ??

Not if the water in the pump is also frozen.

It's a bit hard for the pump to turn when it's trying to move solid ice

Thanks both - defo not 'pumping' although I'm pretty sure the freeze is the cause of the fusing. I'll just have to test them all one by one I guess!

From what I can see in the copies of the owner's manual I have, there is nothing that mentions the screen washers.

However the Front Wipers use F19 (30 amps) located in the engine compartment. There might be a good chance that also supplies the screen washer. Or perhaps the Rear Wiper, which uses F47 (15 amps) in the interior dash fuse panel.

Interestingly, there is a fuse for Windscreen Heating (40 amps) but I don't think a heated windscreen is standard or an option in any countries.

Always used to be the washer wasn't fused, but had a protective circuit within the control module it's directly driven from. Only way to clear is a battery disconnect! This was/is the case up until fairly recently, but i can't be certain in the Roc.

Thanks again - yes there is no mention in the hand book or from anything online, so I'm glad of that confirmation. I noticed that the front and rear wipers were on different circuits as well and I will probably start there. A battery disconnect will follow when I've been on a blown fuse search!

Incidentally an email to a technical VW online help email address came back with 'sorry we can't help you'!

So impala, my snugness was misplaced I fear! Today (after I'd made a VW garage appointment for this to be checked out...) the washers started working once more. You seem to have been absolutely correct in that the pump too must have been frozen and so no 'noise'. Still haven't solved where the washers are fused 'though! Thanks again and gold star for nailing this one! Cheers :D
