Wireless phone charger.

Post by peterh » Thu Feb 25, 2021 10:05 pm

Hi
Has anyone got a factory fit wireless phone charger?
I would like a VW one fitting doesn’t look difficult as there is a blanking plate under the Matt and a hole to fit one.

I was told this when I contacted a VW dealer I use in the U.K. (I live in Spain) that:-
There are no options for a wireless charger on this vehicle either factory order or aftermarket fit .
I find this strange any one with an idea why?
Thanks

Annoyingly, in order to install these, you must take off the panel that your left knee sits against while driving and do some harness swappage. For that reason, I don’t fully trust AliExpress stuff as their manufacturing and electrical regulations are unlikely to be as stringent/safe as EU/UK.

I’m pretty sure I saw some official OEM ones for sale on eBay. Admittedly they’re twice the price but at least you know they’re designed to our regulations and 100% work in the T-Roc. If it were me, I’d be paying the extra monies. But it won’t be me because I use CarPlay which isn’t wireless in my car so there’s no point in wireless charging!

I’ve checked with VW dealer U.K.
with my chassis vin number he says:-
First message:-
There are no options for a wireless charger on this vehicle either factory order or aftermarket fit .

Second message when I asked him to check if I could just buy the charging pad:-
Double checked with sales and there is no option for factory order , etka does not list any charging insert or connections for your vehicle .

This I find strange as I have the blanking plate and hole. Is there some other issue with MY21 cars ??

It was an option on initial models of T-Roc in the UK (and is still an option in some regions) but it’s no longer an option here. That’s probably why they tell you no such part exists for your car. But you can definitely buy the OEM part and fit it. You basically need an additional wiring harness to feed off the one behind the center console. You’d be best to have an indy mechanic do it for you though.

I also want one, but did not feel comfortable installing one, and found this cost effective option on the Italian forum

https://www.t-roc.it/viewtopic.php?p=10 ... 653#p10619

Have already 3d printed the tray, turned out well and the charger arrived yesterday, now just need to find a flat UAB C cable .... in all it will be a pretty cheap option ( UKP 8 + 16 + 4) total cost

Probably only downside it will use a USB port. Not sure how hard it will be to get power from the Cig lighter ?

Hi downunder55 the cigaret lighter seems the obvious power source I’m wondering if you can get your hand in to it and unplug it to power the charger. I’m not biothered if the 12v socket doesn’t work.
Can you put a picture of the opening that takes the charger on your car. If you look at the picture of the opening on my car the opening is flat at the front with little dept to it? Will a charger fit? I put my phone camera in the opening to take a picture of the 12v socket plug.

The AliExpress ones usually have a video of a guy taking off the side panel of the center console. I’m guessing that’s much easier than trying to splice the 12v socket wiring.
