The sensor is in the attachment plate flush with the windscreen isn’t it?

Not for the auto dimming mirror no, I haven't looked at the T roc's yet but there usually built into the mirrors glass so when the cars behind lights hit it the mirror auto dims.

Isn't there also a forward facing sensor for ambient light, so the dimming relies on both and the forward sensor is used for auto headlights (and high beam assist, or is that done by the camera which is also located in the mirror housing ?).

He said "I found on mine it affected the sensor on the mirror and made it go very dark.", so I assumed he was talking about the mirror.

Where exactly did you place it to block the sensor!
It was out of my eyeline right behind the mirror on the passenger side.
The mirror housing has a sensor in and the light from the dash cam made the mirror darken.
