Front headrest does not come off seat.

Post by Clubchamp98 » Tue Apr 02, 2019 7:40 pm

T.Rac 1.5 se.
Needed to take my step ladder for a job but could not get it in as the headrest on front passenger seat only goes up and down and I couldn’t get it off.
In my golf I can remove it. Small section on top of seat pushes in to release the headrest.
Is this normal as it’s a bit of a pain if I can’t get it off.

There is a large button on the side of the headrest pad that you push in.

That’s just for height adjustment not removal.

I know this doesn't solve the headrest removal, but why not fully recline the front seat so that you can then get your step ladder in and it might also be safer if the end of the ladder is down in the front footwell.

The headrests do come out - but it is a tad fiddly. Just had both mine out in my R-Line.

So - after a bit of fiddling and re-reading of the manual to work out what the heck it WAS saying, what I found was that removing the front head rests is best done from the back seat. Also that if you have the Pan-Roof, you need to incline the seat back of the (front) seat back slightly, else the headrest hits the roof lining (this may not be the case on non-Pan Roof cars).

So - here's what I did (Drivers headrest)
- sat in drivers seat and tilted the seat back back slightly
- got in the back seat and pressed the button on the side of the headrest to move it down to it's lowest position (on top of the seat) (first picture)
- felt along the top of the rear of the seat back to locate the release button 'hidden' in the seat back (second picture)
- pressed that in, whilst pulling the headrest up
- out popped the headrest

It’s to big I am a painter so it’s not a normal domestic one.
You can damage the plastic this way .
That’s what the boot is for it’s why I always buy hatchbacks.
The thing is removable I just can’t get it out, piece of 4”x 2” might persuade it.
Thanks for your input.

I have tried this after previous post and it still won’t come out.
It may not have been set properly in the factory , it feels solid even when button in seat is pressed, so think it’s jammed.
