Discover Media Sat Nav updates

Post by RwB&dC » Sat Nov 21, 2020 6:46 pm

Updating sat nav.
I have a 3month old T-Roc with Discover Media which I have found is out of date-not having at least 4 new road improvements and round abouts. I have spoken to my local dealer who says that I have the latest version from Nov 2019. I have seen on the VW web site that it was updated in June 2020. I have down loaded this update following the instructions to the letter (I think) and when I try to put it onto the Discover Media in my car and the Sat Nav will not accept that there is an update on a USB Stick Or SD card.
What am I doing wrong?
Can anyone give me a step by step guide (I am a Dinosaur when it comes to following Information so please don't miss out any small instructions!

Has your discover media player got a cd player and SD card slots in the glovebox?
If so it's got the latest update! (7th November 2019)

There are 2 different discover media systems in 2020.

The most recent T-Rocs are fitted with a different Infotainment system (MIB3) and the VW web site has the June 2020 (6/15/20) update available for download. This is a 28 GB file (EUR_4PR031_FCT3WS-19144_Offline_Update.tar).

For the previous version of Infotainment system (MIB2), the most recent map update available is November 2019 (11/7/19). This is available in several country bundles which are either 13GB for all EU countries, or around 5-7GB for various sub-sets with just a selction of EU countries.

Map data for the MIB3 system will not load into the older MIB2 units, and vice versa.

So although your car is only 3 months 'old' I suspect it is fitted with the older MIB2 Infotainment system. If you car has working SD1 and SD2 card slots in the glove-box then it is an MIB2 unit. If there are no SD card slots, it is an MIB3 unit.

When looking for map updates you will need to select 'From 2019' rather than 'From 2020' even though your car was built this year.

Thanks for letting us know.

I've been checking the web site every other day for the past week, but it wasn't there last night.

Does anyone have a direct link? When I try to find it I’m only shown an update from 15th June.

The official download web site : https://webspecial.volkswagen.de/vwinfo ... download#/

Select the T-Roc model - for Mib2 select 'until 2019' or 'from 2019', for Mib3 select 'from 2020'

Select the Infotainment system - I think all (UK ?) T-Rocs are Discover Media and none have Discover Pro

Confusingly, the first 2 bundles are called 'European Countries - Bundle 1' but the first has maps for all European countries and is about 14.5GB whereas all the others are just a selection of countries as listed an size varies from 5-7GB. They all indicate updated 11/23/20 and the filenames indicate version 1520_V13.7 The files are all in 7-Zip (.7z) format.

If you can't get the downloads to work, or get the correct file(s), let me know and I'll post direct links which will go straight to the download without first selecting model and infotainment system.

Excellent, thanks Impala. My mistake was selecting 2020 for my MY20 car built in 2020 - how completely ridiculous of me to use common sense with VW. I should certainly know better by now.

I've installed the new version and it is working, but the vanishing speed limits are still present on my local roads. I doubt if they will ever fix this.

Anyway, the Version/System information displayed for the MIB2 map data is now as follows;

5NA919866BG
1520
ECE AS 2021

Note: the ECE line shown above is dependent on the map bundle you download and install.

I always install the AS version just for completeness, although I'm unlikely to ever take my car to Europe. This covers all European countries but is the largest bundle (14.8GB installed) and took about 40 minutes to write the SD card.

When extracting the data using 7-Zip, you need to open the archive first, then select the 'maps' folder and extract it to the drive containing the SD card. If you just select the .7z archive file and extract, this will create a folder on the SD card with the same name as the archive file and the 'maps' folder will be located inside that. If you do that, the map data will not be found by the SatNav system. But if you make that mistake there is an easy remedy without having to do the extract again - using your computer, simply move (not copy) the 'maps' folder up one level to the root of the SD card then delete the other extraneous folder which should now be empty.

Does anyone out there have a very recent T-ROC with <We Connect Plus> - this was standard on my car and runs until 2023. The spec for this on the VW website says <Online map update - This service updates map data online.>. I'm unsure how this works and if the updates are many GBs it seems unlikely that they will be delivered over the mobile network to the SIM card in the car. Does this mean that I need to download the full map updates as the instructions above?
