Another T-Roc downunder owner

Post by martybuzz » Sat May 01, 2021 11:10 pm

I picked mine up last Wednesday (140 TSI Sports, R Line). Love the car overall, but disappointed a few things have been dumbed down for the Australian market. No DAB, Active Speed Signs has been disabled, no "We Connect" and a few others options aren't present. I can't permanently turn off "Lane Assist. You can't answer the phone from the steering wheel.

As I said though, love the car and boy does it go! Also, half the fuel usage of the vehicle I sold which was a series 200 Landcruiser diesel.

Wow, that seems like a strange thing to disable… is it a regulatory/legal issue over there?

There's no actual phone button on the steering wheel. Though, am I missing something?

Yes, there's no button, but when a call comes in you just press the OK button, middle of RH group.

You might be able to activate sign recognition and adjust the permanent lane assist by coding it?

That permanently on lane assist set up seems to be new to the T-Roc as in previous models you could turn it of permanently if you wanted 🤷‍♂️

You might worry about invalidating your warranty though 🤔

We connect is a waste of time as already mentioned 🙈

Lane assist can be turned off (per journey, sorry) by 2 button clicks on the steering wheel, no fiddling, no taking eyes off the road.

Left control pad, bottom right 'assist' (car with brackets around it) then right button set, the middle OK. On pressing the assist button, assist comes up middle of the dash, lane assist top, clicking ok, turns it off. Wait a few seconds (ok, a few more maybe...) and this middle display reverts to what was previously there with no intervention.

Thanks, Tricky, yes I know you can turn it off per journey, but it turns back on when you start the car again. Yes, I'm going to look at coding for this and other things. I've also reached out to VW Australia, but I'm not holding my breath.

I would bet they tell you it can’t be permanently disabled as it’s considered a safety system.

I actually really like it - except when I forget to turn it off through contraflow/roadworks and then it’s a nightmare!
