1.0L Owners - What Did You Have Before Your 1.0L

Post by greyroc » Mon Apr 22, 2019 6:34 pm

Hi All,

I was just wondering what you 1.0L owners had before your T-Roc and has the 1.0L proved to be a good replacement ?

We currently have two Golf Plus's, one is a 2.0L TDI (140 BHP) and the other is a 1.4 TSI (122 BHP).

Having only driven a 1.0L on a short test drive of around 3 miles, I thought it compared well to the 1.4 TSI but obviously lacked the torque of the TDI, which was to be expected.

So, I would really appreciate any comments from any 1.0L owners as to the difference in engine power and torque to their previous motors, and how they feel after owning their 1.0L for a while (i.e. Happy, dissapointed or anything else).

Thanks very much.

I had a 60 plate 1.4 Turbo Astra SRI 140 BHP. I can say that the T-roc feels more powerful than the Astra, on the flat, the only thing though is when I come to an uphill drag I need to drop a gear to keep it from losing speed. Otherwise, I am very happy indeed with everything the car offers.

I currently have a 2007 1.4 vauxhall astra (89bhp) although this car is rather slow it does the job and is comfortable sitting at 70mph with cruise control on the motorways and getting 45mpg out of it (its my first car for the past 8 years so I will be sad to get rid of it!). I test drove the 1.0 T-roc a couple of times (around 30mins each time) and it seems much faster! (It is 2 seconds faster 0-60 on paper anyway with the astra being 12 seconds or so).
Speed/acceleration isnt a huge necessity for me though, each to their own!

Due to get my Troc in around 4 weeks though, so will update once ive had a few weeks driving!!

I’ve just been driving a 1.0 Polo, manual 5spd, 19 reg, courtesy car from dealership for 3 days. I have had to pullout at junctions very nimbly, as when tried to pullout a bit quicker, I got a very noticeable Clutch burning smell.
I’m not sure if this is the same engine that goes into the T-ROC.

I am guessing, but I think that as you say the Polo had a 5 speed gearbox that it would have been a 80 or 95 BHP model.

The engine in the T-Roc is a 6 speed 115 BHP unit, so has a bit more power.

So have had my car a full day (since this morning) and done a steady 70 miles and I have no complaints about the 1.0 not having enough power at all, 1st gear absolutely flew off the line at traffic lights on a steep hill.
Sometimes a little unresponsive if on the motorway going 50mph in 6th gear (maybe cause I was in Eco mode), but would have needed to change down if wanting to make a quick overtake... But honestly the engine is silent at all speeds and doesn't break 3000rpm at 70mph.

I think the Polo I had was the 80bhp.
Once I drove it nimbly, it was ok to drive but had none of the luxuries I’ve got, ie all round sensors, rear view camera..
But, it did have a very loud Twin Tone Horn!!!!

I am glad that the T-ROC has a more beefed up version of the 1.0 engine.
I do like the Polo, as my wife has got one, a 15 reg and more pokier engine. I helped her choose it.
The 1.0 I had, did make me feel vulnerable compared to my 2.0TDI T-ROC I have got.
