T-Roc SE 1.5 TSI 150PS EVO 7-speed DSG, 1400rpm after igniting the car

Post by Kostas_P » Tue May 11, 2021 7:54 pm

Hi Everyone,

I have recently bought a brand new T-Roc SE 1.5 TSI 150PS EVO 7-speed DSG. Every time I ignite the car the rpm are raised straight up to 1400. After few seconds(15-30) the rpm drop to 1200 and then after few seconds they drop to 800. When the rpms are at 1400 the car engine is significant louder compared to 800 rpm.

Is this normal?

I've had this with other cars with fuel injection but not for 30 secs and only when it's cold , I think it's the equivalent to the olden days when you had to pull the choke out on your carb , sounds if you have a problem that needs looking at .

Never had an issue like this on my T-Roc or previous Golf (both DSG). Report it to the dealer and let them check the car, but I doubt if it has anything to do with the gearbox. Sounds more like an engine management or throttle issue.

I have a 1.5 TSI 150PS but it is a manual. After starting my engine, the revs are initially increased to ~1200 rpm, which then settle to ~800 rpm. I have always just put this down the the "choke", as it's been cold since I've had the car (October 2020) and I have not used it much due to the pandemic.

I haven't timed how long it takes to drop to normal idle rpm, due to not thinking it was an issue, but I will check next time I'm in the car.

Hi Guys,

Than you for your thoughts. I have uploaded a video on YouTube showing this strange behaviour.

Not sure what way mine works but that doesn't look to bad if I'm honest, also you'd probably drive off straight away normally as well 🤷‍♂️

I must take a look at mine 🤔

As above comments I did check mine this morning and it does exactly the same as yours and theirs so I would say don't worry about it !

It would be interesting to see if the 1.0 and 2.0 TSI engines do this as well. It looks very deliberate in your video - as if intended to do this - and I wonder if it is perhaps to try and warm up the engine faster than usual, potentially to hide the all but forgotten kangaroo problem these engines suffer.

I will try to remember to see if mine does it too when I go out later today.

Agreed - 2.0TSi settles to just under 1000rpm immediately. Idle speed increases slightly if you put the DSG in Sport mode.
