1.5 EVO - 1st gear kangaroo

Post by Jamesley » Sun Apr 15, 2018 2:25 pm

As a foreword I’m going to say I love my TROC, it’s one of the best driving cars i’ve ever had. However is it just me or do other 1.5 EVO drivers find the TROC can kangaroo a bit in 1st gear if you don’t time the clutch and accelerator perfectly?

Never had this problem with any other car and I drive a lot of different cars. Any suggestions would be welcomed.

Funny you should mention it, I thought it was my bad driving, seems to happen mostly when the engine is cold.
As you say, more care taken with the clutch release might improve things

I love my Troc too, but am also struggling with kangaroo take offs.....my previous car had a long, flexible 1st gear whereas the Troc seems short and tight by comparison. As mentioned above I understand I need to perfect the timing of clutch and accelerator, it just seems a little unforgiving in the meantime.

‘Me too. Has anyone asked the dealer about this. My problem is in stop start situations,I usually balance the clutch and then ease off the throttle to judge the speed of the car ahead and then pick
it back up (I didn’t realise what I did till I had this problem ).

Same issue with my 1.5 S-EL. As I’m visiting my dealer on Friday for the software update (and new handbook!), I will mention it and update on the outcome.

It happens the same to me, so is not only a UK thing, hope the dealer found a solution.

Hi Twarden
You mention a software update, what is it for? I look forward to hearing the dealers comments on the “kangaroo “ problem as it seems to affect so many of us

Seems like I’m not alone then, I’m glad I started this thread now.

Interested to hear what the software upgrade is for.

All I’ve been told is the software update is for the onboard computer issues such as “ERROR” message when trying to connect to ‘Car-net’. I will certainly ask for the full explanation on Friday when my car goes in and will update as soon as I can.
