Don’t you just love predictive text.

I asked the question regarding the ride in an R-Line as I like the look of this one as a 1.5 DSG. Our dealer prefers the SE and SEL trim with Diesel power - their test vehicle is a 1.6 TDI SEL. Some of the reviews suggest avoiding the R-Line because of the 19” wheels.
It depends entirely on your own preferences; my opinion is:

1. The 1.6 diesel drives like a tractor;
2. The big wheels are not suited to an SUV and you may kerb them more easily;
3. The Dealer's preference might be motivated by a glut of diesels he can't sell.

Further to the comments by T Roo regarding the wheels on the R Line you must also be aware that the suspension is stiffened and lowered which further effects the comfort on our pot-holed and speed bumps on our over crowded roads. In my opinion, from our test run in the R Line, the suspension is too harsh. I do prefer comfort over outright appearance! The SEL is a good compromise.
One other point, that put me off the R Line, was the black “goth-like” interior that my wife said she couldn’t live with!

Thanks for your opinion T Roo
If I required a tractor i’d look for a Massey Ferguson so I’ll avoid the diesel.
I had also considered the dealers motives as this is also where the offers are. By promoting diesel they are presumably safeguarding against having a yard full of rejected Roo’s.

Thanks Barnaclebob.
I’ll take on board the comments regarding the ride. We also have an UP! with big wheels that some might say has a harsh ride. It's what we have become accustomed to.

Both my daughter and I thought we could live with the black interior in the R-Line however my wife has not seen it and just like your wife may say NO. There is another point that could swing it in favour of the SEL, for the price difference we could have the panoramic sunroof.

I was somewhat apprehensive about the big wheels, low profile tyres and lowered suspension but my previous car was a Golf 1.4 TSI GT which had a similar setup, although the tyres and wheels weren't quite so extreme. Frankly the ride in the T-Roc is no worse and possibly better than the Golf.

I was also worried about the dark interior, but when I'm in the car I really don't notice it, and the seats are much nicer than in the SEL IMHO. So I'm happy I chose the R-Line, but everyone to their own.

I have the sports pack so have the dark roof lining however the SEL seats give the lift the interior needs IMHO, I love them.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed.
At 65 I feel I’ve served my time with a manual gearbox so require a 1.5 TSI with the make life easy options. I read a number of reviews and opinions on this forum before dismissing the online reviews from carbuyer and what car and looking at the expensive SEL trim. Then I saw the R-Line. Those that have purchased them on here in the main appear happy. Now looking for a dealer who has the 1.5 TSI DSG SEL and R-Line available to test drive. Thanks again.

My dealer in Ayr may have one arriving soon.

They placed a duplicate order for mine around Feb trying to speed things up, but it didn't work. The order went to stage 3 a couple of weeks ago, meaning it will either have just been built or will be built very soon.

Anyway, they said they would add the car to their stock. Exact same spec as mine (see signature), so it may be worth giving them a call.

Maybe Ayr is too far for you ?
