This is really helpful stuff and all without any snide remarks that I’m sure would be the case on some other forums. Thanks everyone :)

Looks like there’s flexibility in DSG to simply drive or to drive hard as best suits the driver. I’ll do a test run when I get round to it to get a feel for it; will be a while yet but it gives me time to reflect on the comments here. Cheers!

We have the 1.5 DSG and it couldn’t be smoother. No issues low, mid or high gears. All changes without drama.
Most owners agree a DSG can feel a bit jerky compared to a TC auto. Some people say they don’t notice. I guess it’s subjective.
Our car is a December 19 car so it might be a post roo car as well.

Interesting. I mean it’s possible they’ve tweaked the box software too. Do you find it holds onto 1st for too long when you’re going pretty slow, resulting in the engine screaming a bit? Many of us with MY18/19 T-Rocs found this. If they’ve changed this I’ll be very pleased.

Also sounds like you may have the modified turbo @Vernerbongo2 and I were discussing. How do you find acceleration? Is there much turbo lag?

I usually have a slowish start around the neighbourhood and the gear change is seamless. I'm normally up to 3rd without realising. No sign of 1st holding for any noticeable period of time.

I haven't really noticed much of a lag issue, still running in so all still very tight, however we have the 1.5 DSG set up in the Mk7.5 R-Line Golf as well as that is a very twitchy car in comparison. If there is a software update, I might ask them to take a look at the Golf when it's in for its next service to see if they can improve the ride of that car too.

Not having to use the left foot to clutch is my favorite thing about DSG. It is super simple and after some experience with autos, much smoother IMO

Hope so! That’s the same day I picked up mine 2019. 4000km later and no sign of roo. ;o)

Shifting lever to left will give you manual you need to shift lever back to get sport mode ie pull it back hope this helps

If I remember correctly paddles came as part of sport pack, although as ever its hard to confirm what is included until you collect car. Tried a few times and to be honest wouldn't have really missed if I didn't have

Paddles are standard on the R-Line and R models and optional (£195 or £320 with heated steering wheel) on SE, Design and SEL.

Strangely, a heated steering wheel is not even available as an option for the R-Line or R.

Before I ordered my car I was considering an SEL and VW customer services advised me that paddle shifters were not included in the Sport pack and the two options (Sport pack and paddles) could not be ordered together. Crazy, as paddles are a feature 'sporty' drivers might want, but that's typical of VW these days.
