Ford fiesta 1.5 eco boost st3

Post by vernerbongo2 » Sun Jul 19, 2020 8:38 am

Look at the stats for this Ford fiesta 1.5 eco boost and it has only 3 cylinders. (torque comes in at 1600rpm, TRoc 1500)
Makes you wonder why our 1.5's with an extra cylinder couldn't come with better performance as standard and I suppose someone's going to say why bother having a 2.0 litre option then

I read somewhere that 3 cyl are better than 4 for a given cc, as each one is that much larger. E.G. A 1.5 3 cyl, each cyl is 0.5 litre so 3/4 of a 2 litre engine!

Yeah but that engine is probably squeezed to its limits and will make a horrible sound when accelerating hard, whereas the 1.5 in my T-Roc sounds very clean and happy when I put my foot down. Similar story with my neighbor’s Focus: it’s a 1.0 with 3 pots that makes 125bhp but it doesn’t sound good. Sounds like it’s under constant strain. Owner says the auto gearbox in it is absolute trash too.

An ST is a top performance model, so you are not comparing apples with apples.

Post the figures for a bog standard Fiesta 1.5 and then we can compare.
