I'm sorry to hear you had to cancel your order. I really hope that your situation is one time case. Did you order the car from authorised VW dealer or some local dealer?

Hi authorised dealer always bought from them my last 4 golfs. It’s an issue affecting all new orders from the vw factory in Germany so I’m guessing all dealers are in the same boat

A German press release about the delay

18:11  13.05.2018

Running that though Google Translate comes back with the following. Two comments
a) I just wish they had been more up-front about these delays from the start, and
b) I am _amazed_ that a company the size of VW have been taken by surprise by any of this!

The introduction of the new exhaust test standard WLTP could lead to delivery problems at Volkswagen. The conversion is complicated for the automaker.

Wolfsburg / Berlin

Switching to the new exhaust test standard WLTP could lead to Volkswagen delivery bottlenecks for certain models. If the test cycle for consumption as well as pollutant and CO2 emissions is introduced, there should be in the second half of the year at the core brand "adjustments in production", the company said on Saturday. This means that the carmaker may be forced to reschedule part of the normal production process because of additional effort.

DISPLAY

According to a report in the industry newspaper "Automobilwoche", VW is therefore also considering a reduction of the plant holidays. After dpa information, however, it's all about possible delivery bottlenecks. Before that, the new CEO Herbert Diess recently warned at the Annual General Meeting.

Also BMW had indicated that the conversion to WLTP will have consequences. It will temporarily halt the production of several gasoline engine models for the European market, in order to gradually prepare them for the new EU measurements.

Volkswagen is streamlining its offer

Concerning the situation at Volkswagen, the "Automobilwoche" wrote: "If there should be decisions on changed operating modes at production sites, the employees will be informed as soon as possible." According to VW, all parties are working hard to keep the effects as low as possible.

By 1 September 2018, certified WLTP measurements will be required for newly registered passenger cars. According to the report, VW customers currently have to sign a "supplementary agreement WLTP" when ordering a new car if they can not yet be notified of the new fuel consumption and CO2 emission figures.

At the same time, VW is streamlining its offer. For example, the Passat with 120-horsepower diesel engine will have an SCR system for exhaust gas purification as standard after the revision. SCR catalysts are also a topic in the discussion about hardware retrofits of old diesels. You can improve the emission control, but the question of reimbursement is unclear.

Dispute about retrofitting diesel cars

Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer (CSU) relies on software updates, Environment Minister Svenja Schulze (SPD) insists on modifications to engine control and exhaust system at the expense of manufacturers.

After the US indictment and the warrant for ex-VW CEO Martin Winterkorn, the company is also further engaged in the processing of "diesel gate". From company circles it was said that these steps did not change the fundamental legal position for VW.

But it was also relatively important for the civil proceedings, what Winterkorn had known in the Abgasaffäre and what not. Because even in the case of customer lawsuits will be reported that he had learned only in September 2015 beyond doubt of the diesel manipulations.

Many shareholders are mistaken

Diess, who joined VW in the summer of 2015, had called for a more decent behavior in the company at the Annual General Meeting. With regard to his own role, according to information from "Bild am Sonntag", there are various statements as to whether or not there may have been warnings of concrete imminent fines in the US before September 2015.

The question of the timing of this information is particularly central in lawsuits by investors. Many shareholders are deceived, because VW allegedly gave the financial market too late information about the financial risks of the affair.

I don't really understand what's causing the delay. Surely the engine is the engine and all that is changing is the criteria under which that engine is tested. Unless VW need more time to fudge the engine so that it better passes the new test, but I thought they were over doing that sort of thing!

Sounds a bit like they need more time to invent another defeat device for the improved emissions test

I'm still a bit confused about this delay. Did I undrstand right that this delay has only affected UK for now?

I confirm that in Croatia, everything is on scheduale.
Yes, the inital buid time was very very long (4 or more months) but at least there are no delays..

Read somewhere (can't find it now - think chucked car mag away) that quite a few manufacturers have been caught out by not understanding the enormity of testing time involved. Apparently, they have to have individual tests for each engine combination in each model, in each model trim, in each model trim with combinations of 'packs'/ optional tyres, etc, etc. So it's an enormous task to produce a figure for each combination.

Total over the top bureaucracy gone totally mad, me thinks...

@derooke - I spoke to VW via the 'chat' link on the my volkswagen page & they told me my car had arrived in the UK & would be with the dealer in 10 days (so now due on the 25th May). The app is still showing 'in transit' (stage 5) & I've not seen any updates to that.

Hope that helps
