Boot floor

After my first trip to the supermarket with my 4 day old T-roc (1.5 sel, indium grey), I found shopping bags a tight fit for height in the boot. There seems to be an extra few inches below the existing floor, and the manual implies that the boot floor can be lowered (page 195). However, the existing floor will definitely not fit in a lower position. Has anyone lowered the this floor, or is a new floor required? There doesn't seem to be a different floor available in the accessories.
Looking at the manual again, the drawing of the lowered floor (bottom right) even seems to be a Golf!

As I have a 4motion SEL I had thought there was no lower floor position option for me. When going out at weekends with the grandchildren and three adults on board I had been removing th spare wheel and just laying some carpet on the uneven boot floor.

So I ordered a boot liner from Ebay (lower position mode) and planned to use this as a middle option sitting on top of the spare wheel. It fits fine but could do with some hardboard or mdf to make it a little more solid.

However, yesterday when emptying the boot of the spare wheel and the foam surrounds for jack and tools, I discovered that I could set the boot to the lower position after all, just needed to go in at an angle (I don't recall doing that to the Golf this car replaced). And the Ebay liner fits on this and gives a bit more protection if you are carrying something likely to spill or make a mess.

I'm only posting this in case any other 4motion owners are feeling they only have a 1 level boot option, they have 2 (or a possible 3) if they are willing to remove the spare/tools etc.

Hello, with regard to the space saver wheel debate, please see below pictures of my boot floor before and after (5686-1) modifications.

I have just bought a 2021 T Roc R line 1.5TSi that was VW stock, so I could not specify a spare wheel kit. It came with an inflation kit, the foam support for it and the jack and tool parts. The jack and wheel brace was just floating around inside the black bag in the wheel well banging and crashing about !

I much preferred the spare saver wheel option, so after much research obtaining the VIN of a car with said item I contacted VW for the part numbers for that VIN and not my car's VIN. Please refer to the 14-20-2021 image below but the parts you need to do this are as follows:

Wheel I used was the 5Q0 601 027 BT but others may fit as well. Has to be a T125/70 R18 99M with a PCD 112mm x 3.5J x 18H2 with ET25.5. This part number fits all these requirements.
A certain auction site sold me a near brand new one with a Continental tyre for ÂŁ75 delivered.

The foam tool kit parts are W5G0 012 115 AF bottom foam and W5G0 012 115 AD top foam.
The strap that hold them together is W5G0 867 749
The locknut the holds the wheel to the floor pan is W3G0 803 899 E
Small push button that holds the bottom foam part to the floor using the threaded screw already part of the boot floor is WN 908 713 01

All came to ÂŁ36 from VW parts dept. so the whole job was around ÂŁ110 for a space saver wheel and normal tool kit option that has still allowed me to use the lower extra capacity boot floor option. Needless to say I am very happy with the result. WV initially quoted me around ÂŁ450 to retro purchase the inflator kit for the above when buying the car.

One caveat though, Obviously caution pays when purchasing wheels and tyres on a certain auction site. Ensure that you are buying a good straight and true rim with a tyre that is not worn, damaged or ancient ! Although hopefully it will never need using and speed obviously will be limited to 50mph.

Hi
Thank you so much for posting this - so pleased to find it. Can I please ask, when you say VW parts dept, who do you mean? Was it directly from VW, through the website or a call, or via a dealership? I’m struggling to get anyone to help and most want to charge me a fortune.
Thanks again

Can't help I'm afraid, as VW haven't uploaded a T-Roc manual to their website yet, and our car is yet to arrive. The online configurator & brochure are not a great help either. Is yours 2WD or 4WD?

I noticed a reference to (presumably) a Golf in the Tech Specs too - they list both 3 and 5 door versions ...

Same as my last car, (MK7 Golf) our new T-Roc has a spacesaver spare wheel.

The floor of the boot is currently level with the top of the rear bumper/fender.

It is great for setting items into the boot as you don't have to lean in or bend over with loads.
( I remember this being a big issue in the manual handling course I took at work a few years ago )

But my floor can be fitted in this position or a much lower position which is just above the spare wheel. I did use this once on a pick up from the airport which involved three suitcases.
Otherwise I prefer it in the normal, bumper level floor position.

OP, look at the locating mechanism at the back of the boot for the floor.
Remove the floor shelf and look below... there should be a lower locating mechanism, same as the top one.

I may be totally wrong if your car has a full size spare.

I asked for a space saver tyre to be added to the order, so I can adjust the boot floor height, not sure if it comes with a full sized spare if the dealer will provide a space saver or if I will have to buy it as an extra

I've spoken to my dealer who is liaising with VW Uk over this. All of the VW literature including the online configurator lists the car with spacesaver wheel & adjustable height boot. As someone on here has already mentioned, they were using the full size wheel at launch which means the polystyrene jack housing & height of the full size wheel prevents the boot floor being put on its lower setting.
I've lodged a formal complaint & asked VW to retro fit the spacesaver & smaller polystyrene jack housing so that I can utilise the extra boot space. One of the reasons I swapped from my golf gtd was to gain the extra space based on their quoted measurements. I'd advise anyone else to do the same & request the correct parts be retro fitted. Apparently VW are now building the Sel with the space saver wheel & variable boot floor from build week mid February.

I personally would be keen to see an image of what's under the boot floor for those who say they have little or no room.

My previous car was a mk7 golf... it had the 2 level floor and space saver tyre.

I had the choice of choosing a low or high level floor, dependant on where I located the floor panel.

My T Roc appears to be one of the first without the T Roc, signature 'diamond' shaped daytime running lights which double up as indicators, without being specified as an extra ( Standard on SEL models )

I have rectangular DRLs, similar to the mk 7.5 Golf, which dim to allow roadusers to notice the amber indicator below to be visible. (Others have diamond shaped DRL which doubles up as signature indicator )

So, I previously worked out, mine is a 2018 build car, and has the light set up above.

2017 built cars appear to have the more expensive lights without specing them as an extra. (ÂŁ200 plus if I rememember)

Someone pointed out the early built cars were built to Euro spec rather than UK spec.

So I'm thinking, these cars might have a full size spare wheel and therefore a boot floor which only fits at the higher level.

My car has the optional Beats sound system, which includes a subwoofer inside the spacesaver spare wheel. But this still allows me to drop the floor to a lower level.

If a user who claims to have only one floor level can post a pic of the spare wheel, I will gladly show another image of my two level floors

I have an SEL which was one of the first to arrive in U.K. and I have a full size spare wheel which prevents me lowering the floor of the boot as I used to do in my MK7 Golf GTI however after questioning this with my dealer as the spec says that boot floor is adjustable I got word today that VW will swap my spare wheel for a space saver.

Seems like most posters here are SEL owners, which is harder to establish what's going on.

SEL has as standard the signature 'diamond' shape Daylight Running Lights (as a previous user described them)

My Design model has the regular, 'MK7.5 Golf type' LED Daytime running lights, which are unlike the diamond shape items. Just a straight DRL, which dims as the indicator below illuminates.

( the fancy one on the SEL model is a diamond shaped DRL which becomes a diamond shaped indicator)

My point is, when I researched the early build models, (all built in 2017) they seemed to have had a free upgrade to Euro spec cars..... the signature lights, which are free on SEL, but a ÂŁ200 upgrade on lesser models.

I'm guessing the full size spare wheel is another freebie, as part of the Euro specification.

Mine is a week 2 built car of 2018, so I got the spacesaver spare wheel and cheaper DRLs.

I'm glad of the extra room in the boot, but even though I didn't really look the DRLs initially, I now sort of wish I had them as a freebie.

Picked up our new (front wheel drive) SEL today - and have the exact same problem... the boot floor is definitely not height adjustable!

Have just had a look through all the VW online literature on the T-Roc but can't find anything on the VW website that says that the T-Roc has an adjustable boot floor, but instead I can only find references to space saver spare wheels (without the fact that this means the floor is adjustable).

Did anyone else manage to find anything that they used to make a case to their dealers that their boot floor should be height adjustable?

Just a bit worried that if I try to complain they might just say that none of the brochures don't say that the floor is adjustable and therefore they refuse to retroactively fit it!

Any links (or other advice) gratefully received!

My car has the same spare wheel (optional extra) but as it is 4Motion, does not have the option of lowering the boot floor. The Haldex and the different rear suspension (true multi-link independent) raises the metal boot floor a bit, so no room for lowering the composite boot floor.

Alas, no subwoofer either, but lots of space around the spare to stuff all those silly little items in you always need to have on board.

Here's my car. 1.5 TSi Design model, with the subwoofer for the beats sound system. Spacesaver spare came as standard, so I have the option of selecting the high or low boot floor as needed.
Thanks - now I see what the problem is with mine! Whole bunch of polystyrene that holds the tools round the back the wheel, and the wheel is too "tall" itself. Will let you know how I get on with the dealer!

Ok my dealership is saying that all SELs are now being built without the opportunity to drop the boot floor and therefore they won't change/retrofit anything to my SEL that would make it possible to adjust the floor.

From reading a couple of comments above, it sounds like others are having a lot more success with getting VW to agree to swap the spare wheel (and jack housing) on their SEL so that they can lower the floor. If there is anyone that has managed to get them to agree - I'd be very interested to hear from you!

I decided to review the current documentation for the T-ROC SEL again as I am collecting my new car on Sunday. Seems there's some misinformation by VW:

1. The VW Configurator states the SEL comes with a Space Saver steel spare wheel as STANDARD. I did this twice to be sure.

2. In the current Brochure there is NO mention of Full Size spare wheel OR Adjustable Boot Floor on ANY model

3. In current Price List (6.2.2018) it states the S Model comes with Steel Space Saver wheel as Standard. Under SEL Additional Items of Standard Equipment for the SEL there is NO mention of Spare wheel in Space Saver or Full Size, implying it is the same as the S Model.

4. It does however mention a steel space saver wheel under the DESIGN model

5. No mention of Variable Boot floor in either literature

6. No mention of FULL SIZE spare wheel in either documentation

So, this suggests confusing and misleading information from VW. My salesman said it comes with adjustable floor. Question is does this affect the published boot capacity of 445 litres if the floor cannot be lowered ?????

Am going to see salesman tomorrow as he emailed to say 'The SEL comes with a fixed level floor as per the brochure and full size spare wheel. You can utilise the space under the boot floor for storage but the exact specifications are as per the brochure and price list. The only T-Roc model available with a variable floor is the Design specification that comes with a space saver wheel.'

Well, not sure about that. Am visiting dealership to discuss tomorrow. Wish me luck.

In DK, spare wheel is an option, standard is repair kit with compressor. All, except 4Motion have variable boot floor.

#23 ·
That is the key point - it should only be the 4Motion cars that do not have the variable boot floor. The T-Roc brochure and the Model Dimensions document (both available now on the VW UK website) say that the boot capacity is only different for 4Motion models.

So in my view given that (a) the brochures promise boot capacity of 445L on non-4Motion models (which can't be achieved if you do not have ability to lower the floor); and (b) the configurator says that it comes with a space saver wheel - the SEL boot floor (for non-4Motion models) should definitely be adjustable!

Mikeb54 - let us know how you get on!

Ok, I went to discuss with my local VW salesman. He was very empathetic with the situation and we looked at a SEL in the showroom (Which wasn't there when I started looking). It has what 'looks' like a Full size spare with the black polystyrene packing which does not allow the boot floor to be dropped. After some discussion with a technical post-sales manager and reviewing between the Design and SEL in the showroom it appears there are two types of space saver wheel. One is a 'Space and weight Saver' and the other is the 'Steel Space Saver'. No such thing as a Full Size spare wheel. The former is found in the Design because it has 17" alloys as standard and therefore we are presuming can cope with a temporary thin space saver wheel. However, as the SEL comes with 18" alloys it requires the steel space saver wheel which is larger. This in turn inhibits the boot floor from being lowered due to the polystyrene housing. All this I have asked to be clarified with VW by the dealer and await a response as I seem to know more about the cars than the salesmen ;-(

The salesman also suggested the black polystyrene 'housing' could be 'modified' left and right where the boot floor sits which should allow the floor to then be lowered. I have not accepted this until VW come back with their response. So, I have asked the dealer to:

1. Find out from VW if the Steel space saver wheel can be replaced with the space and weight saver on the SEL without any technical problems. None of this is documented in VW literature or the online configurator although it does actually mention the two different types of space saver in the Price List without explaining their physical differences.

2. Clarify with VW if modifying the spare wheel housing has any negative issues.

3. Clarify whether the Steel Space Saver reduces the published minimum boot capacity of 445l due to a fixed boot floor. If it does then by how much. If it's then less than my A3 then you will feel the earth rumble as I explode in the dealers face!!!

The saga continues. I will collect my T-ROC SEL on Sunday and will most likely have to wait a few more days for a decision. Phew!!
