Hi All
im a bit concerned about my front assist system wether its working or not as its never come on with a warning or brake .My last two cars Seat Arona and Leon both came on with a alert tone and a large symbol in the center of the dash and it would brake if a emergency both had a large radar plate on the front grill but i cant see this on the
t rock.
Is it done by the camera ?
Or is there somthing behind the grill?
Apart from a visit to the dealers for a diganostic is there any other way of checking it
Iif you turn it off in settings it comes up as deacitvated and have also set it to high.

Is it the same as the cruise control as when i set that up with the distance for other vehicle l it works ok and slows down
So i woring about nothing

If it wasn't working it would show as a fault on the dashboard 🤔🤷‍♂️

I can't remember the brake assist settings menu wording?
Is it early, normal & late? Must look tomorrow.

I have mine set to late & it never comes on at all, had it previously set at normal & it came on the very odd time & normally at the exact same part of the road going to work.

Set it to early to see what happens?

Had a polo courtesy car a couple of years ago & it was a real pain how often it would actually slam the brakes on 🙈

I Havethe icon on the dash car with hour glass it comes on which is self check then goes off after about 2 minutes driving .
So it looks like its OK just not as sensitive as the Arona or Leon

But thanks for all replies

I can't remember but I'm sure you're correct, the radar works in conjunction with the multipurpose camera 🤔

Therefore it's probably working, probably a more forgiving system which is good 👌

I wondered the same as mine has also never come on despite many people reporting what a pain it is when it comes on randomly. Well that was until yesterday when I was driving through bust traffic & someone cut in front of me & it came on, but not until after I'd already started braking whilst using ACC. My driver assist is set to the default 'Medium' as that seems to keep the best distance when using ACC, so maybe they've adjusted the automatic braking down too much?

I noticed in your signature line @Briant566 that your car is 2020, so does that mean this is a second hand car which you recently acquired or have you 'lived with' this problem for 2 years ?

If there was a previous owner then it is likely that they have altered the settings, so that is the first thing to check as per @Vernerbongo2 's guidance. As other have said, the front radar is built into the grille badge which makes it less prone to being hit by stones, but still possible. Some of the assist sytems use the camera (eg sign recognition), some use the radar (ACC) and some use both (collision protection).

It should be easy to test the radar using the ACC, which will display a small car symbol when one is detected in front even before it is within the range for adjusting your speed. As long as you are prepared to intervene if necessary, simply set your ACC to a speed higher than the traffic in front when on a dual carriageway or motorway and wait for the ACC to reduce your speed as the gap closes and eventually will match the speed of the vehicle in front.

Lastly, I believe @IanMakka is wrong, and although both systems use the radar there is no link between the settings for the sensitivity of the front assist and the distance setting for the ACC. The latter is adjusted via the left-hand set of controls on the steering wheel and has maybe 4 or 5 positions, unlike the front assist which has just 3 (Early, Meium and Late).

Agreed 👌

If you look at my photos above you can turn it off or on, it's a separate system to the ACC .
If set to active it will be on as soon as you start the engine.

I can only assume the distance warning setting is for the big red warning symbol (with sound) that appears on your cockpit display 🤔

Oddly, mine showed a different icon the other day instead of the usual great big X across the middle of the display. It shows a much smaller one higher up but still made the warning tone. I was driving down the motorway with nothing ahead of me as far as I could see.

Has anyone else seen the miniature one? First time I’ve seen it in 2.5 years of ownership but occasionally see the large one.
