Cant go fishing without herrings of all shades ! I think your suggestion of a few weeks back was a good one, and the database updated was for German market. We are such an insular gathering on this small patch of grass.
Yes, you could be right. If all the stations & logos in the update relate to German or other European stations then you probably would not see any changes in the UK.

I mentioned YouTube videos and one of the ones I watched going through the update process was 100% German stations. There were dozens and dozens and many different regions, and I noticed the radio was set to DAB which is probably what the regions are for. The main poster in the Briskoda forum discussion I linked is in Latvia.

I thought I'd come across some hidden VW web page that would provide the answers VW How-to guides

I scrolled down and found these 2 suggestive options ...
Image

So I clicked on 'How to install radio station logos' and got another tantalising page ...

Image

By this time I was drooling in anticipation, and dropped down each section in turn. Both refer to 'the link below', but in typical VW fashion there are NO LINKS BELOW !

Even more useless than a chocolate teapot !

If the German update is in two parts... one the loader and the other the data to update new logos etc..... is it possible to alter the payload of this loader to include tiles I have downloaded from the net for all registered UK radio stations ? Be great if some smart software diddler could crack that one !

There is no loader. AFAIK you have to select 'Update Software' in the Infotainment system and it then checks for 'identifiable' files on the device you select (eg a USB drive). The files in this case are what is extracted from the downloaded zip file.

The latest files I can find are MQB2_Europe_v1.10.52.zip (for Mib2) and MQB3_LGe_Europe_v1.31.52.zip (for Mib3). The corresponding instruction pdf files are attached.

The structure/content of the 2 zip files is quite different, but in both cases I would say it is best to extract or copy the contents of a zip file to the root of a newly formatted (FAT32 or exFAT) pen drive. But you have obviously done that.

Adding additional logos to the extracted files may be possible and is something I will look into but it has been suggested that VW have encrypted some or all of the data to prevent such unofficial mods.

Hi Ken - I've managed to get in to the Mib2 database file and I can see logos for some of the stations showing blank in your photos. These png files are as extracted from the Mib2 database file ...

There are still some missing, such as Abolute 90s and Absolute Rock although there is a generic logo for Absolut Radio.

The bad news is that the Mib3 database file is indeed encrypted and requires a password which no one seems to know.

I don't know if these database files are compiled by VW or Phonostar but the latter seem to be the only place where they are available for download. Perhaps the problem with the updates not working on Mib3 units is because it can't decrypt the file, either because that functionality is missing or because VW haven't used any or the correct password.

I'm still searching for a password or any evidence of success with an update on Mib3.

You are a star Impala ...I have a full set of logo tiles for Uk in 2 sizes at least so that they can populate both the thumb size in a preset horizontal list and bigger for a station page. If you want them I can mail over. Dm me an address .

Thanks but I've already got loads of logo bundles and have used these over the years doing manual 1 station at a time updates on my Mib2. It's slow if you have a lot to do but at least it works and I've even made a quirky PNG file of my own and assigned it to a station just for fun.

The Mib3 seems a dogs dinner by comparison and it's pathetic that VW haven't sorted this before now. I expect to get my new car in the next 3 or 4 weeks (it's left the factory and is in transit ... hope the VW IT systems can keep track of it but the dealer says he doesn't know where it is currently.) Not sure if I want to try messing with any of these update processes.

Update on a newly supplied car ? Surely the dealer should PDI the car and ensure all is 100% to justify his cut. Might be fun to ask him to sort it prior to acceptance !
Who's ever had a car delivered with all the latest software already installed.

"It's all Over-the-Air, sir" and it comes with flying pigs :ROFLMAO::LOL:

That's correct having two folders META & DATA, that's how the VW software updates. Earlier in the year I needed to update the MIB3 software to Ver 0330 to sort out the Android Auto problem.
I was sent the software and it had the two sub folders Data & Meta. It updated without any issues. There must be a problem with the Phonostar update as this doesn't work. Its so annoying.

Regards John
Hi John, could you point me in the direction of where you got software version 0330..
I too would like to update to this version but can't be bothered with rigmarole of dealerships...cheers

Ken, in your post #26 above your photos indicate that you installed a radio logo update labelled '(OI_MQB)_RSDB_v1.31.48_Europe'. That update seemed to complete OK but there remains doubt as to whether or not anything changed. So the challenge now seems to be how to identify what changed. Other than a known station previously without a logo and now showing a logo, I can't think of any other method.

From your subsequent posts, I think you downloaded that update as a zip file from Phonostar.de, so can I ask what device part number you entered and what was the full name of the zip file you downloaded. Can you also look in your System Information and post the Software (SW) Train version if shown.

The reason I'm asking is that I think there may be one or more newer versions that can be downloaded elsewhere and may have some of the station logos which are missing from the v1.31.48 file.

Impala, the latest version I can find is v1.31.50 whereas in a previous post of yours you mention a version v1.31.52.....
Where could I download this please.

In order to get my download I am sure I had to enter the serial number from my header unit to ensure the update was specific to it .I can not see any change after.
I think Phonostar simply provide download links for what is in production use for a particular vehicle, but as you probably know, VAG actually use the MIB3 across multiple brands (Seat, Skoda, VW etc.) and models (Golf, T-Roc, Passat etc.) and the software shipped and availabale as updates for these are mostly out of sync, with some cars 'getting' updates before others. What is actually important is the make and model (HW) of the head unit, so on Phonostar when you enter some hardware part numbers you are then offered different choices based on the HW version. The zip file naming conventions used identify the head unit make and hardware differences, so if you stick with the same file 'name' and just look for the appended version you can find a sequence of incremental updates for a specific type of head unit and it is these different versions which are often 'released' for one brand and model of car before another, but they do eventually catch up.

Apologies for this lengthy post. I hope it helps.

I have spent some time trying to understand and correlate the different software and hardware versions using information gathered from various sources such as Phonostar.de, MIB-Helper.com, plus forum and general Google posts providing or showing images of device part numbers or the SW Train version.

If you know the SW Train (Software Train) version, then start with MIB-Helper as that provides details of the associated hardware, firmware, maps and radio station database. Because the generic infotainment systems are used across VAG brands (Audi, Seat, Skoda and VW) and across multiple platforms and models in each brand, there are lots of versions.

This page lists all the firmware versions on MIB-Helper. However, even some of those are reported as invalid when you try to examine the details. This page lists what I believe are all the Radio Station Database (RSDB) versions (versions 1.10.xx are for Mib2 versions 1.31.xx are for Mib3), although it seems the links to older versions no longer work. Download files are via links to Phonostar.de and download files which contain ICAS3 in the filename are for IDx cars.

If you don't want or need the details of the hardware, firmware or maps then you can use the device part number from your System Information and go straight to Phonostar.de. Be aware that some device part numbers have 2 versions according to the hardware version (eg H22 etc.) as displayed in the System Information.

The following tables show my key findings using the device part numbers for real T-Roc cars as posted on the forum. These are all UK or Europe spec cars.

I also found one (MQB3_LGe_Europe_v1.31.52.zip) which appears to be for something other than a T-Roc and is LG hardware, but I can't locate the link which I used to download it.

The bottom line is that all T-Rocs fitted with the Preh hardware uses the same version of RSDB file, and v1.31.50 is currently the highest version of that file and is available from Phonostar.de

@Impala, I for one would like to thank you for rounding up this invaluable info for us that like to update ourselves due to not wanting to deal with dealerships and their constant "we can't find anything wrong" and "it's working to designed parameters" I have updated the radio icons a couple of times and have never seen any advancement for British radio stations, still no smooth icon and that's a mainstream independent radio station. (I hold no belief in stations broadcasting icons)
Could I push you in advising me on updating my firmware/software. It's, clear researching these forums the latest firmware is mo13_eu_vwmqb_p30600p (version 0330) but my 22 req troc has mo13_eu_vwmqb_p30600p (version 0306) and no amount of waiting does the other updates go beyond this. I suffer from various issues of usb playback freezing and android auto disconnects so would like to update but following the mib helper links ( putting up with the many 502 bad gateways) I can only find mo13_eu_skmqb_p30600p in their folder structure and am reluctant to try this update for fear it's a skoda update and bricks my head unit. Do you know where I can find and download mo13_eu_vwmqb_p33000p
Thanks in anticipation for any help and advice

Forgive my rather sceptical view, but the difference between one update and another if the deviance is one or two decimals can surely not change the units ability to show the tile for a radio station that has been listed for decades. Surely a minor update would be remedial to include new data. My update registered as installed left me with much the same 70%% missing tiles as previously. Among these omissions is LBC , a station I have listened to for ages. Strange though as this station is tile less on DAB, yet on the same head unit displays a tile on the internet radio setting. I think we have the backdraught from VW cost cutting and very inept software creation in the new far east market. I hope to buy a solution on Ali Express long before Wolfsberg knows.

Apologies for another big post and also apologies if my previous post didn't provide enough clarity on how to use the information so I'll try to answer @Scottydog90's and @Ken Cabrio's points together using the following example.

the latest firmware is mo13_eu_vwmqb_p30600p (version 0330) but my 22 req troc has mo13_eu_vwmqb_p30600p (version 0306) and no amount of waiting does the other updates go beyond this.
@Scottydog90 - I'm not sure if that was just a typo for version 0330 in your post or if you have actually been trying to do an update using 'mo13_eu_vwmqb_p30600p' to update the same version which is already installed. That will never initiate the software update process in the car. You need to download 'MQB3_OI_JND_Europe_v1.31.50.zip' from Phonostar. Read on for more details.

Go to MIB-Helper.com and enter the SW Train 'MOI3_EU_VWMQB_P33000P'

Among the details returned you will find this Radio Station Database info ...

Image

Note: All the 'MOI3_EU_VWMQB' SW Trains on MIB-Helper are listed here and specify exactly the same RSDB version Europe 1.31.44 as in the image shown above. The remainder of this example therefore applies to all.

Image

The details for the Radio Station Database shown in the SW Train show RSDB version Europe 1.31.44 and if you hover the mouse over or examine the (507.6 MB ↓) link you will see that it points to
However, MIB-Helper seems to be out of date and clicking (or tapping) the link returns an error because that particular zip file no longer exists on the Phonostar web site because it has been superseded.

Click the 'All RSDB update packages here.' link which returns this page ...

Image

Unfortunately, that MIB-Helper page above lacks some of the details needed to identify the particular device, so I've added more details in my own version of the table ...
Image

The first thing to note is the entries at the top of the table (ie v 1.10.xx) are for MIB2 units while those at the bottom (v 1.31.xx) are for MIB3. I've outlined the version being used in this example and the device type can be seen in the Phonostar download file names as 'MQB3_OI_JND_Europe_v1.31.44'.

Now go to Phonostar.de and enter any of the device part numbers shown for device type 'MQB3_OI_JND' shown in the tables in my previous post (#23) and in the table below.

You will find that they all specify 'v1.31.50 from 31.03.2024' (the most recent update on Phonostar) and all provide a download link to 'MQB3_OI_JND_Europe_v1.31.50.zip'.

Once you downloaded the required zip file to a PC or laptop, format a usb memory stick (pen drive) as FAT32 or exFAT. The usb device needs to have at least 2GB capacity. Now using Windows File Explorer, locate and select the zip file. Windows should automatically show the contents in the right hand pane as shown in the screen shot below. Select the 3 folders (checksum, Data and Meta) and copy them to the root of the usb device. Safely remove the usb device from the computer

Switch off the car ignition and plug th usb drive into one of the car's usb ports. Now turn on the ignition and the Infotainment system. The update files should be fouand automatically and a message should appear on the screen. Just follow the instructions.

Note: Phonostar.de are the official VAG producer and distributor for the Radio Station Database for all MIB2 and MIB3 variants (among others) and all geographies. Downloads from Phonostar update the radio station database only and do not update the main infotainment OS or maps.

How to report missing station logos
It has been suggested that you can report missing station logos by sending an email to 'stations@phonostar.de' stating you are a VW car owner and provide details of your Device part number, Hardware and Software numbers as shown in System Information as in this example posted by Michael Weston.

Image

Include the name of the latest zip file you installed and the SW Train reported on completion of the update (if you have it) as shown in these examples posted by peterh and Michael Weston

Apologies for another big post and also apologies if my previous post didn't provide enough clarity on how to use the information so I'll try to answer @Scottydog90's and @Ken Cabrio's points together using the following example.

@Impala many thanks for this invaluable info and yes it was a typo in my post, damn predictive text.
Following your excellent info I've downloaded radio version ####50 so I'm going to try a before and after to see if I gain any extra logo's.
My main issue is I want to update my firmware/software to MOI3_EU_VWMQB_P33000P and when clicking on mib helpers page you describe the download firmware updates here takes you to mibsolution.one and when you eventually get to the entire folder substructure of available downloads (after many 502 bad gateways) within the mo13 folder there is no MOI3_EU_VWMQB_P33000P the nearest is MOI3_EU_SKMQB_P33000P which worries me that might be for a skoda, and I don't want to brick my head unit.
I simply want to find and download MOI3_EU_VWMQB_P33000P
Once again many thanks for your invaluable input into this excellent forum.
