Apologies for another big post and also apologies if my previous post didn't provide enough clarity on how to use the information so I'll try to answer @Scottydog90's and @Ken Cabrio's points together using the following example.

@Scottydog90 - I'm not sure if that was just a typo for version 0330 in your post or if you have actually been trying to do an update using 'mo13_eu_vwmqb_p30600p' to update the same version which is already installed. That will never initiate the software update process in the car. You need to download 'MQB3_OI_JND_Europe_v1.31.50.zip' from Phonostar. Read on for more details.

Go to MIB-Helper.com and enter the SW Train 'MOI3_EU_VWMQB_P33000P'

Among the details returned you will find this Radio Station Database info ...

View attachment 7030

Note: All the 'MOI3_EU_VWMQB' SW Trains on MIB-Helper are listed here and specify exactly the same RSDB version Europe 1.31.44 as in the image shown above. The remainder of this example therefore applies to all.

View attachment 7036

The details for the Radio Station Database shown in the SW Train show RSDB version Europe 1.31.44 and if you hover the mouse over or examine the (507.6 MB ↓) link you will see that it points to
However, MIB-Helper seems to be out of date and clicking (or tapping) the link returns an error because that particular zip file no longer exists on the Phonostar web site because it has been superseded.

Click the 'All RSDB update packages here.' link which returns this page ...

View attachment 7031

Unfortunately, that MIB-Helper page above lacks some of the details needed to identify the particular device, so I've added more details in my own version of the table ...
View attachment 7034

The first thing to note is the entries at the top of the table (ie v 1.10.xx) are for MIB2 units while those at the bottom (v 1.31.xx) are for MIB3. I've outlined the version being used in this example and the device type can be seen in the Phonostar download file names as 'MQB3_OI_JND_Europe_v1.31.44'.

Now go to Phonostar.de and enter any of the device part numbers shown for device type 'MQB3_OI_JND' shown in the tables in my previous post (#23) and in the table below.

You will find that they all specify 'v1.31.50 from 31.03.2024' (the most recent update on Phonostar) and all provide a download link to 'MQB3_OI_JND_Europe_v1.31.50.zip'.

Once you downloaded the required zip file to a PC or laptop, format a usb memory stick (pen drive) as FAT32 or exFAT. The usb device needs to have at least 2GB capacity. Now using Windows File Explorer, locate and select the zip file. Windows should automatically show the contents in the right hand pane as shown in the screen shot below. Select the 3 folders (checksum, Data and Meta) and copy them to the root of the usb device. Safely remove the usb device from the computer

Switch off the car ignition and plug th usb drive into one of the car's usb ports. Now turn on the ignition and the Infotainment system. The update files should be fouand automatically and a message should appear on the screen. Just follow the instructions.

Note: Phonostar.de are the official VAG producer and distributor for the Radio Station Database for all MIB2 and MIB3 variants (among others) and all geographies. Downloads from Phonostar update the radio station database only and do not update the main infotainment OS or maps.

How to report missing station logos
It has been suggested that you can report missing station logos by sending an email to 'stations@phonostar.de' stating you are a VW car owner and provide details of your Device part number, Hardware and Software numbers as shown in System Information as in this example posted by Michael Weston.

View attachment 7040

Include the name of the latest zip file you installed and the SW Train reported on completion of the update (if you have it) as shown in these examples posted by peterh and Michael Weston

Not to for one second disrespect the amount of work you have put into researching this, the simple report to "stations@phonostar.de" should read ..... Hi this is VW UK, as the agents for this brand in the UK we have noticed ( is anyone awake) other than the BBC, virtually all radio stations in the UK lack tiles on your system. Please could you re write the update specifically for the UK
after researching this ..... uk dab radio stations - Google Search

ands rewrite a new update for us. We will then forward this to every owner in the UK as applicable and update all service cars on next view.

Surely we cant expect owners to pay £30k + and then behave as though they bought LEGO to build at home.

...
My main issue is I want to update my firmware/software to MOI3_EU_VWMQB_P33000P ...
OK

MOI3_EU_VWMQB_P33000P is the SW Train I used above as an example and as I showed MIB-Helper reports that SW Train uses RSDB version Europe 1.31.44
Image

I then explained that MIB-Helper is a bit out of date and doesn't have a link for the latest (MU: 0330) version.

To find this required a bit of lateral thinking and intuition.

By gathering just the Device Part Number from photos posted by members on the forum I was able to enter these in to Phonostar.de and collate the following details ...

Image

As you can see above, Phonostar reports that each of the different Device Part Numbers represents the same device Type-Vendor, and also has the same RSDB version and download file name. In other words all of the MIB3 units use the same version of the Radio Station Database, namely 'MQB3_OI_JND_Europe_v1.31.50.zip', and can be downloaded from the Phonostar site.

Furthermore, noting that the Device Part Numbers shown above only differ in the suffix (D, H, K etc.), I decided to take a punt and try the same base number 3G5035820 with other suffixes A thru Z and I entered each in turn into the Phonostar search box. Lo-and-Behold, A thru S were recognised (with the exception of the expected I and O due to possible confusion with numbers 1 and 0) and although there were some variants for LG hardware as fitted to other models, all the 'MQB3_OI_JND - Preh' (ie T-Roc) variants use the same RSDB version and download file as listed above for the forum members' cars.

Here is the entire table of these device part numbers ...

Image

Note: The Hardware (H10, H11, H12 etc.) identifies the T-Roc variants when other variants share the same part number.

Basically, this suggests that ALL T-Roc cars with a Device Part Number of 3G5035820 plus a suffix letter in the range A-S use the same RSDB version and download file.

Final Answer
  • Forget mibsolution.one
  • Go to Phonostar.de (the official VW repository).
  • Enter the Device Part Number (from car's System Information) in the search box (include the suffix if present).
  • If the search results have more than one version, use the Hardware number shown in the car's System Information (eg H22) to select the correct one.
  • Click 'Download' and follow the instructions in previous post for installing.

The following screen shot uses 3G5035820N as an example ... Hope that helps and answers your final dilemma.

:ROFLMAO: very good. But you might get a better result if you remain polite

BTW, does your car have FM and DAB or just DAB ?

I thought I'd read somewhere that VW had dropped FM, but the current standard equipment shown in the configurator (and at the time I ordered back in May) has the following 2 items in the 'In-car entertainment and communications' section ...

I need to know where I can MOI3_EU_VWMQB_P33000P so I can update my mib3 head.....
Cheers

Perhaps it's me ...

I thought you just wanted the latest radio station database but it seems you are wanting much more than that. The RSDB and Map updates are downloaded from Phonostar and VW web sites respectively and Phonostar is the official VW source for the RSDB.

As I mentioned before the MOI3_EU_VWMQB_P33000P firmware is for updating the MIB3 head unit and I don't want to get involved in or offer any advice on doing that.

WARNING

I don't have any knowledge of where you can get the firmware update besides going to a VW dealer and personally I would not dream of doing a firmware update myself.

You are correct that the download links on MIB-Helper take you to a 'mibsolution.one' web site, but that is not an official VW source and I cannot vouch for anything you might download from there.

I did manage to get on to that web site without an error for the first time tonight and for what it's worth found the following page which is probably as far as you got ...

I certainly wouldn't think of using a Skoda version. Perhaps those guys on mibsolution.one haven't managed to hack the 'MOI3_EU_VWMQB_P33000P' version yet !

You are on your own from here on !

@Impala, thanks for the confirmation, that was indeed how far I'd got on the mibsolution.one and was always a bit sceptical when I could only see what looked like a skoda update. I will definitely heed your warning and go no further and just concentrate on radio stations. A trip to the dealership is in order as I feel I would benefit from an update.
Once again many thanks for your Sterling work on this subject.

Mine has DAB and FM plus i.net.radio. plus my media BT Audio and streaming .
Do you get the same missing logo problems on FM or are some which are missing on DAB show up on FM or vice versa ?

Sorry Impala just seen this. I have not really used FM as the re are so many good DAB stations, however over the next day or two I shall try and see if there are as many missing and get back.

@Impala @Ken Cabrio just a bit of feedback. On my mib 3 you can only select fm/DAB from the source not individually but if I look at the whole station list there are only 7 or 8 fm stations, of those half are bbc stations and have logos for both. The others are commercial stations and have no logos on both. I have updated from ##48 to ##50 and it hasn't added a single logo. I can only assume the updates are European stations. Which is annoying as the main commercial stations like smooth and capital have logo. My biggest bug bear with the mib3 radio which I haven't seen people talk about is it's lack of ability to station hunt. By that I mean if I drive in the wife's hyundai i10 from Nottingham to Southampton her radio will flawlessly change from smooth east Midlands to Northants to Oxford to Hampshire and not skip a beat of music, whereas my 30k crap mib3 drops off at the edge of each region and spends 3 or 4 minutes hunting in silence until it picks up it's next region. I've given up on the mib3 and as soon as the mib4 is in a troc I,m trading in......

Sorry for the delay in responding, have a project on here that is taking all my time .
So far from the play that I have had, I find much the same as Scottydog9. My system prefers DAB but will tune FM if all else fails. So far it is the BBC stations only that have logos. As mentioned previously my most listened to LBC has no tile on DAB but when I change to iNet Radio and find LBC it has a tile.

I think it would be safe to assume that the logos come via the internet when using iNet Radio.

I think I have an option in the Radio FM and/or DAB settings on my Mib2 which allows me to choose if FM/DAB switching is enabled or not. Not sure if you have that but it sounds like it wouldn't make any difference as far as logos are concerned.

The only way to progress this is probably for users to email Phonostar to report the missing logos. As far as VW are concerned they don't produce the logo database so they won't get involved. This is the same as what happened with Sat Nav maps, despite it being VW who select the 3rd party provider and own the commercial relationship rather than car owners.

I wrote to VW digital via net last Monday. I received the usual give us time to process ..... lets hope a week of silence is because of research. One might argue that their warranty and purchase were with VW not phonestar !

Discussion starter · #74 ·
As an update to my contact of the 18th November 2024, VW UK responded after a week and suggested I find phonostar.de online and download an update and apply myself. Amazed that this took a week when, as I informed them I had already found this info on the forum, and downloaded and applied the supposed fix. I told them that the update seemed not to contain the remedy required for the UK and was perhaps intended for the European audience. They then responded again after a delay saying I should write to Phonostar.de about this and ask them to try and investigate the creation of a UK update.

Frankly at this point I was quite frustrated at the " fix it yourself" attitude and did begin to wonder what VW UK do for their percentage of the deal. I informed the contact that my contract to service and warranty was with VW UK and their agencies, and that in line with their advertising for service work, they state that part of this service is to update all necessary updates. I further mentioned that Phonostar.de as the latter part of their identity suggests is a foreign ( German) company contracted by VW to supply to them , and if every one of the UK owners were to start individual contacts with them it might just snow under their mail server besides cause them huge clerical nightmares. It seems far more reasonable that VW UK make a UK request on behalf of their users for this update.

The much concerned and user conscious reply to this was " we will pass this on to the relevant department" ........ and nothing since ! Amazing that thousands of cars must have gone in for warranty service and inspection over the months of supply of this vehicle and ALL equally shown this issue , but it has never been reported or forwarded along the chain. Nothing like good old German engineering let down by people that don't seem to give a toss.

Just to update this discussion with info from my new car, built in October 2024.

One of the first things I did was to capture the System Information giving part numbers and versions for the Infotainment system, Map database and Radio Station database (see screenshots). You can see that the Navigation database is bang up to date at 24.10 whereas, disappointingly, the Radio database is still 1.31.48. This is the same version as many others have reported prior to updating to 1.31.50. I don't understand and can't explain this when v1.31.50 is supposedly from 31.03.2024 and I was expecting to have at least v1.31.54 from 19.09.2024 as used on LG hardware versions. It comes as little surprise therefore that most FM/DAB radio station logos are still missing from my car.

I immediately noticed that the hardware part number 3G8035816B is different from all the others in this thread and a bit of Googling indicates that this new hardware was introduced to the T-Roc (and T-Cross) on cars built in 2024. The hardware p/n reported elsewhere by others (3G5035820 + various suffix letters) seems to have been used on cars built between 2021 and 2023.

The new hardware unit is manufactured in Poland by a compny called Joynext. I have never heard of them either, so after some further Googling it didn't come as a surprise to learn that it is primarily a Chinese company and is part of the Joyson Electronics Group and formed by the merger of Joyson subsidiaries Joyson Preh Car Connect in Ningbo, China, with Preh Car Connect GmbH in Dresden, Germany, (previously a subsidiary of Preh GmbH). Those still paying attention may have noticed that the previous hardware (3G5035820) was manufactured by Preh (see the tables in post #62 earlier in this discussion). So this 'new' hardware is actually just an 'evolution' of the previous hardware and it seems that Preh, Joyson Preh and now Joynext have been developing infotainment and car communication systems for VW and other German car manufacturers since 2017.

Finally, the SW Train (MOI3GP_EUVWMQB_P5160J) of my new car is NOT recognised by MIB-Helper, but the hardware is recognised by Phonostar with the offer to download v1.31.50 (the same as for all the other Preh based T-Roc hardware versions which people have been unable to apply as an update).

Regardless of hardware, I have a feeling that if only VW UK were proactive on behalf of their customers and spoke to the firmware creators about UK radio stations, we might all be better served. The fact that I have icons for BBC stations but very few of the independents proves that this is a UK issue with German creators not looking beyond Europe. NOTE to VW if you cant be arsed to service these issues, then why take away the ability I had in mt Golf to update myself via the menu as all tiles needed are freely downloaded from a UK database. This is an unnecessary hassle for high paying clients caused by a total lack of joined up thinking by folk paid well do do this.

Just found this in a 'Readme.txt' file in one of the bundles of radio station logos I'd downloaded for my Mib2 system...

"For questions concerning the station logos please contact stations@phonostar.de"

Might be worth a try.
