........ had the car 11 months. That's the breakdown service though, which I assume is what the SOS button utilizes.
Breakdown service is completely separate?
I don't want to hit my sos button to find out 😂

Will be interesting to see what happens my service when it hits 3 years, a reminder letter most probably 🤔

Read somewhere about the emergency button/call. It's routed through to 999 services somehow, nothing to do with your breakdown cover. Something the EU mandated, to assist locating after accidents. Though how it actually works i'm not clear.

I suspect you'll get a rather angry 999 call center agent 😂

Ah ok, fair enough. Wonder if the UK will keep that mandate. It is a good idea in my opinion.

GPS. If an airbag is triggered then an automatic call is made to emergency services where the current location of the car is transmitted automatically.

If you press the SOS button yourself then a voice connection is initiated with the VW emergency centre. I had the "Emergency Call Activated" message display about have a dozen times now for now reason but didn't hear any voice ask me if I was ok!!

Has anyone actually reported this and taken their car in to a dealer ? If so, what was the response and reason for the 'warning' message ? Is the car at fault, or is it the phone network signal, or is it VW system ?

A warning message is displayed when I start the car for 2nd time ( like 1st time started at home & 2nd time after refueling ) and light becomes red.
If my mobile Bluetooth is off then the light remains green

If the light becomes red
Switch off engine
Lock the car with key (while seating inside the car)
Unlock with key
start the car
Light will become Green temporarily.

Had same SOS error message after 3 weeks on new TROC delivered end June 2021
Now intermittent every few days and usually resets with ignition off/on. Twice it didn't reset and infotainment would not load profile so couldn't use radio, satnav etc.
Also SOS green light goes completely out not red when the dashboard warning is present.
Having done some investigating apparently SOS faults are common across the VW Audi and Skoda ranges and it was in the Guardian newspaper on March 2021 for all of these makes.
Have it booked in with dealer so will see how it goes.

Hello,
I too have had the SOS failure, only 3 times in abour 3K miles. On the 2nd failure I lost all the functions from the entertainment unit & sat nav put me miles away from where I was showing I was travelling through fields  . After the 2nd failure my local VW dealer had a look & adjusted some parameters, since then 1 SOS failure (taken photo as proof, as not rebooked in) with entertainment unit fully functionable inc sat nav. I wait to see how it behaves.
I did find a YouTube video from an Audi owner who found a "reset" I'll try & find the link & post here. When the SOS failed he pressed & held the SOS button, after about 60 seconds the sustem started to connect to the SOS people, he then cancelled the call & the system reset back to normal. If mine fails again I shall give it a try.

Update, I had the SOS fail twice yesterday on a 150 mile round trip. Both times I was able to rest the error by pressing the Red SOS button till the screen gave an option to cancel the call.
Hope this helps as a work around for others until VW can rectify the fault.

We've had our T ROC about 6 weeks and this has happened twice now, today the infotainment system locked out too!
Looking on here it's seems like this isn't an isolated incident. Will see if it resets itself if not will take it to the dealership - not very impressed with this fault, especially when you can't use anything on the infotainment.

The problems with VW's IT are never ending. I've had numerous SOS issues in my 8 month old T-Roc. The error usually clears itself within a day or two. However the most recent one didn't. It started with the SatNav giving wrong information, then the SOS message came on and nothing worked on the infotainment system for days. Having looked through this thread, I then went in the car pressed the SOS button and was connected to somebody who said that the SOS was for emergencies only and I should press the spanner button next to the SOS button to connect to VW or take the car to a workshop. It appears though that pressing the SOS button fixed the problem as everything is now back to normal

I don't know about all of you but after 15 years of loyalty I'm definitely giving VW a very wide berth when I next change my car.

Amen to that. VAG need to wake up.

Iv'e just got my T-roc back from the stealers, the SOS phone issue came up and half an hour later my infotainment unit packed up completely. The dealers said it needed a module update on the SOS phone and a software update on the Infotainment system.

Quick update dealer had car mid August and said they updated firmware and cleared codes. Haven't had issue since.
Thanks

This evening my car displayed “Emergency call activated” twice for absolutely no reason. Scared the life out of me but has never happened until today.

Has anyone had a software update to fix it? Surely that’s the message that comes up when it’s automatically making an emergency call?

Never had or read of any such false alerts & calls.

It sounds more like some problem on your car (perhaps a sensor) rather than a general issue affecting other cars that would be fixed (?) by a software update.

Have you tried the usual Infotainment reboot ?

You have an OBD11 I believe, so have you checked if there are any fault codes logged ?
