Mine has now come back, I had it back in April it went away after a couple of weeks, but when I went for a service there was a recall for the arial so I assumed that would be a fix!, so readly annoyed when this appered last night when I got in the car!!! could live with the sos being red but its the yellow triangle on the dash that is annoying.

So after a few days of waiting for VW dealership to have time to check, i went in today (car is still there). The battery was not the problem and apparently there's a way to check "health" which turns out to be 75% and their service manuals say replace at 3%. The diagnostic keeps giving errors on the module itself and they told me that this is not covered under VW warranty but they are still trying to figure it out.

A little update, the local dealership tried to discourage me from fixing the issue. I had to contact the VW representation company in my country and cc the global contact of VW. After that they called me to get the car back to service where they removed the module to replace it for free even without warranty (not sure if it is covered because the car has less than 60k km). So the new module will be here before the end of January and hopefully it will resolve the issue.

Fun facts while the module is not on the car:
Carnet is not working so the sim is probably in it.
Microphone is not working at all (no voice control for car or android auto)
Random errors popped up (like airbag issue and acc random issue)

I was just thinking how frustrating this whole experience can be for people who bought the car brand new...

Had my brand new R Line about 2 weeks now and as of yesterday each time I start the car I get this warning message.

Has anyone had anything similar and did you get it resolved and how?
Hi. Like many of you in this forum I've had the same SOS fault with red light overhead button, message on dash saying 'Emergency call restricted. Visit workshop' with orange warning triangle on dash permanently. I tried all the suggested fixes of holding SOS button until it goes to call centre then cancel call etc, none of these worked for me. After calling my VW dealership they insisted it is not a known fault and as I was just outside of my warranty by 2 weeks I would need to pay ÂŁ100 for diagnostic investigation & any costs to rectify. I stated that it actually is a very widespread problem across VW, Audi and Skoda and many people have had unsatisfactory outcomes when 'investigations' have taken place and the problem has continued despite an alleged fix. So I thought I would continue searching forums and working my way through the infotainment settings to see if I could sort it myself. I know it's early days but I think I may have fixed it by going into 'Users' on the infotainment menu, reselecting myself as Primary user, then I removed the privacy settings to enable all location services and data services, then a message popped up to say a software update was available which I ran. After this I switched off car and restarted and the dreaded SOS light had gone to green on ceiling console and orange warning light has gone from dash. I then took it for a drive 7 miles, switched off for 20 mins and when restarted engine to drive home it was still all good. Fingers crossed this is a 'fix', I will re-post on here if it fails again. This potentially has saved me an arduous drive miles away to the VW garage as they provide no collection service or loan car, and leave the car with them for a minimum of a day before I get it back. I like the drive of my car, but I have not enjoyed the VW garage experience.

A bit of an update, after 4 months of waiting, the factory produced a new module which they sent to the dealership. I took the car in on Tuesday for them to add the new module. They told me they installed it (I checked different serials) and they "updated" the car to latest software.

For now it seems like the light is green and no errors although a side problem is that the VW connect app doesn't update for my car. The services support are investigating the issue.

The local dealership was very displeased with me pushing the national representative to replace it without cost as they lost around 1k in parts and work but hey, f* them. It's a well known issue and they try to play dumb..

Does anyone have an update on this?
Last year I was told that it would cost me ÂŁ1200 for a new module because it happened 3 months out of warranty. I tried the workaround above resetting myself as the primary user and removing privacy blocking etc but it didn't work for me.....I'm really annoyed because when I press the lit red button by the roof lights o-one comes to help anyway! I thought it was meant to an emergency callout!

Any ideas helpful please.

For me, althought the car was already 4 years old and around 59k km, after I sent them a very angry email with cc the greek representative and VW Germany, the cost dropped from 1k to... zero.

The replacement was very poorly done thought. The dealership "forgot" to register the new module with the factory so for a while it didnt work. Now a year later I am still randomly getting SOS red light. It seems that it happens more often when my battery is low or I am in a very bad signal place. Anyways they told me to take it once again for an update "as this is a known issue...".
